Should students be given bus passes too?

I feel like students in & University should get government-paid bus passes as well as pensioners, it's hard enough as it is to make ends meet.

Especially since maintenance grants have been slashed. Why is it fair that all the cuts are on young people?

andybigbro 20-09-2015 05:48 PM

Yes because i can't afford them.

Kate! 20-09-2015 05:55 PM

I suppose the difference between OAPs and students where travel is concerned, is that while some OAPs are well off, many are not, and are of a fixed income for the rest of their lives. Students are hopefully on their way to a career... so no, I wouldn't give students free bus passes. That said, if it was up to me I'd reintroduce full grants tomorrow.

Ashley. 20-09-2015 06:23 PM

Student discount maybe, but not a free pass.

This

joeysteele 20-09-2015 06:26 PM

Technically, they are in Education so a cautious yes from me to this one.

Daniel-X 20-09-2015 06:29 PM

Definitely should get discount at least, College and High School students deserve them. I don't know about Uni because most people I know stay on campus anyway.

My school now has loads of people coming from the council estate like five minutes away. They all used to go to a different schools because bus passes were free then and my school is Catholic so they never used to come but they do now that they have to pay for their buses.

Cherie 20-09-2015 06:39 PM

100 per cent yes, except for students in Scotland who get enough of a discount already

this irritated me at uni - everyone had to pay the same price even though half of them lived on campus, and I had to get a bus from independent housing 8 miles away.

armand.kay 20-09-2015 06:48 PM

I get a free bus pass oop :fan:

armand.kay 20-09-2015 06:49 PM

And when I was in London we got zip oysters which let us on the bus for free

You could easily pay for it by tackling tax avoidance by big companies. Wouldn't have to raise any rates.

bots 20-09-2015 07:06 PM

Students could easily pay for it by adding it to their loans

When none of the major parties in England subscribe to a grant system to fund the education any more, why should travel be funded.

Pensioners are a different case because many have health issues in later life and need to use public transport. They can't really be compared with students.

Northern Monkey 20-09-2015 07:28 PM

No.Students have working legs and respiratory system.Oaps are knackered after a few steps. Also how would this be funded?I say no feck the students.
