Australia has been involved in the bombing for a few weeks now. The time to leave Syria to it has passed...

Not really, they have never made any bones about the fact they support the Assad government. The West are finally starting to accept that he might have to stay in power and that the alternative to Assad is likely to be worse: that has been the Russian line from the start.
