I would never get in any other cab but a black cab, unless it had been pre-booked with a company.

What was the deal with uber again? I remember hearing that they were dodgy but I can't remember why..

the scheme itself is not dodgy, it should lead to cheaper taxi fares. However, it doesn't negate the inherent risk of taking an unlicensed cab directly off the street.
