UK-based steel firm Caparo goes into Admin.

[Up to 1,800 more UK steel industry jobs
are set to go as the axe falls on 20 sites
across the country.
UK-based steel firm Caparo is the latest victim
of the global steel crisis as it is set to enter administration.]

Global Steel Problems
more sad news with these workers

JoshBB 19-10-2015 04:16 PM

Government should bail the companies out and save the jobs. Will really hinder growth if people start to lose jobs.

You do not understand
its Global Market.

That other Firm stayed Open while in the Red.
Even Labour could not do anything.

Until China stops dumping steel
we can not do a thing.

People on the news were just talking about how David Cameron might speak to China and see if we can prevent them dumping it into 'european markets'. Do you think that will work?

To me it seems almost too easy to be truthful.

Chinese steel is heavily subsidised by the Chinese government. No way could the Brits compete with that.

If you were representing Chinese steel, would you close one of the major markets because David Cameron asked you to?

Right I guess not then

The peoples' jobs need saving still though.. just obviously cammy isn't going to be able to just speak them out of selling steel..

The British government could do a lot more than they have, which is basically nothing. They could lower those crippling business rates and subsidise or freeze the high emission/carbon taxes.

British steel makes the best steel in the world. China can only provide us with lower quality steel which is no good for railway lines or large infrastructures.

British Steel is just another sacrificial lamb in our desperation to keep China sweet.

I see it as another attack on our infrastructure too, quite literally our foundations.

Hubby is expecting his notice anytime soon, totally due to the Steel industry slump.
Even though we face the dole, I would hate to think the government would step in to bail them all out
SSI alone owe over 800m, heaven only knows how much Tata need to keep them going, then we have this new lot today.
Pointless throwing good money in after bad, especially as there is no future looking upturn on the horizon.
Redcar has been here before, they survived as a town, they will do so again, hopefully the 80m will go some way to help them.
