Actual books or dls?

For me its half the pleasure to physically buy and possess the book and treasure it but do you prefer the convenience of downloading onto a kindle eg?

Whats your preference?

Lostie! 23-10-2015 01:19 AM

Physical books :flutter:

Mokka 23-10-2015 02:16 AM

I don't have a preference... Both have their own attributes.

A physical book, that you hold and feel and smell is delightful... And it's safer in the bath.
An ebook is handy on that device you carry around every where, so you always have it with you on the go, and it doesn't weigh you down.
Sometimes I read the same book on both formats. I will have the hard copy at home, and the epub version in my pocket.

Definately real books. The feel of them as well as the contents are what I prefer. I download recipes, but even then I want to have them on paper.

Niamh. 23-10-2015 08:56 AM

Actual books, I've never actually read a book on a kindle or whatever

Crimson Dynamo 23-10-2015 09:07 AM

Kindle for years now

not read a book book for ages

Locke. 23-10-2015 09:13 AM

It doesn't count if it's not the actual book

This.

I love books.

Crimson Dynamo 23-10-2015 09:27 AM

when i go to bed and put the kindle fire on I can have a wee look at the internet (weather stuff), check to see if Marsh has been banned and look for celeb bikini shots on the DM and then just flick to my current book all without moving. Plus its nice and bright and if i am in an auction waiting and i want to continue reading my book it knows (on my phone) where I am in my book and then at night my kindle knows how far i read on my phone

its much better

BigSister 23-10-2015 01:40 PM

actual book for sure

Crimson Dynamo 23-10-2015 01:46 PM

Plus books clutter up houses as people still are reticent to throw a book out when they should - very few books are worth keeping

They don't clutter. They're pretty and make everything all book smelly.

Real books forever and always. I'd never buy a Kindle.

Kate! 23-10-2015 04:07 PM

Books needn't clutter. I recycle by returning them to the charity shops which is where I buy the majority.

Who is anyone else to say when other people should get rid of books? People will keep books for as long as they wish, they don't have a set expiry date.

I take lots of books from dead estates and houses are cluttered up with books that mainly end up in skips. they are dust magnets and take up valuable space in peoples homes.

The days of having books in your house to try and tell people how educated you somehow, are are over.

Dump them and free some space up

Quite an assumption on your part. I have no immediate plans to get rid of any of my books (even the ones I've finished), for the simple reason that I like them and would like the option to read them again in the future.

I use both, I love the smell of bookshops, Kindle is great for holidays and I like that you can read a books abstract so you know if you want to read it and also if I want a book right now I can download it.

Ammi 27-10-2015 06:55 AM

..just a question with Kindles actually...I know that many people say that they're great for holidays and travel but do they not get sun glare and are difficult to see the screen..?..

There is one specifically for this Ammi, I think it's called Kindle White, I have a Kindle Fire there is no issue with glare, never taken it to the beach though!
