She says it's an alternative to the food banks.. but I drove a one tonne truck for the food bank when I was 20, and the items she is getting from the distributors would be going to the food banks if she didn't swoop in.

So imo, she is going to cause a shortage at the food banks in her area...

Good point Mokka.

Ammi 27-10-2015 05:54 AM

yeah, well done her, she's 20yrs old, she's doing something and obviously to try to build something for herself as well but others will benefit also.../I hope it's successful...maybe local people could donate out of their cupboards to her shop as well, those things that are fine and ok to eat but just sit there and never get eaten...

Crimson Dynamo 27-10-2015 07:20 AM

so she is selling inferior essentially processed food to people who the last thing they need is inferior essentially processed food?

Ammi 27-10-2015 07:52 AM

..so are supermarkets and many other food shops as well LT, only they're selling it at a much less affordable price ..the silly thing with this processed/low quality meat/higher cancer risk thing is that it's basically saying that people who are on low incomes and who are struggling and who can afford nothing else are at a higher risk of getting colorectal cancer ...kick 'em when they're down eh...this might not be a great quality but at least atm it's some help because it's a fraction of supermarket prices..

Ammi 27-10-2015 07:57 AM

..all supermarkets are involved in price wars and under cutting etc and the 'give' with that is the lack of quality with many things because many people have no choice but to buy low quality...

bots 27-10-2015 07:59 AM

i've seen "out of date" food shops that sell cheap food too, doesn't make it right or a great service either

High street stores fix their prices between each other too and play at being competitive on 1 or 2 products out of thousands that they "price watch"

Ammi 27-10-2015 08:02 AM

'These include fresh meat, dairy, tinned foods and even hair dye, all coming to the end of their sell-by date.

But because they are still well within their use-by date'

..it's not out of date stuff though...

waterhog 27-10-2015 08:04 AM

its just business. if she is willing to put in the risk and do the hard work - well i praise that.

otherwise its likes saying carrots are cheaper at morrisons then M&S - people have choice.

(i have enough wars of my own to get causght up in a supermarket war so i am butting out. )

MTVN 27-10-2015 08:24 AM

Sounds like a good idea to me, I'd shop there. A lot of this food would otherwise go to waste when there's nothing that wrong with it

Crimson Dynamo 27-10-2015 08:25 AM

here for the 25p wine

waterhog 27-10-2015 09:41 AM

lets getting ready to get drunk. cheap night out.
