Yify tv and their other sites are getting banned.

Sadly Yify tv and all their other sites are getting banned. Yify tv alone gets 12 million views a month. Free movies, all the latest movies in HD to watch each month and for free etc.
I checked it tonight and it's now back online but the movie industry is trying to close em down. News reports online say it will be gone soon.

What are your thoughts?

if they are breaking copyright law then they should be taken down, simple.

They have been active online since 1997. Other sites are still active but because yify get the most hits they are targated. It's our loss at the end of the day BUT even if they go free hd movie sites will still operate.

well, thats not really what its all about. Copyright theft is an offence, its illegal, just because its available online and lots of people use it, doesn't make it any less illegal. Similarly, there are plenty illegal porn sites on the net, doesn't make them legitimate because people view it.

Go the cinema? buy the dvd? rent it?

I can understand to a certain extent people watching stuff online like sometimes a movie doesn't get released in their country but people watching high quality movies online is wrecking the industry.

Absolutely correct. It is depriving the content providers of income, puts people out of work, stops new and original content being produced and pushes the price up for those that do play by the rules.

It's sad in my eyes because while it may not dent bigger studios as badly it could ruin smaller ones :(

A good example was Scream 4, somebody recorded a pre release screening and it was all over the net, it hurt the movies takings hugely and effectively killed off the franchise hitting cinemas ever again.

:clap1: no revenue means poorer quality or no movies, simple economics

To be faaair, for films I like the look of or am following the franchise of, I always go to see them in the cinema at least once, often two or three times if it's good. I also have Netflix and Amazon Prime subscriptions so, long term, things tend to show up somewhere that I'm already contributing money to.

In the gap between HD release and legit streaming availability, I'm not adverse to torrenting. It's not like I'd be buying it otherwise . What's the point when almost everything is available to stream (legally) after a while anyway? Personally I think the days of disc-based movies is nearing an end... They should just sell films to legit streaming companies as soon as they're done at the cinema box office. They could be "premium" for a little while - like £2 to rent for a couple of days - then after a few months go free to subscribers.

The big companies like Disney, WB and Sony could even have their own subscription based services...

That's because the film was **** though. It got out early and everyone said, "This is ****, save your money".

If the film had been amazing and leaked early, and people had been talking about how great it was, people would have been flocking to the cinema to see it.

Jamie89 04-11-2015 04:56 PM

I don't think it really matters. There's plenty of sites that do exactly the same thing. Online piracy will never be stopped.

And when you here about movies making a billion plus at the box office, it's hard to have too much sympathy for the industry.

Jamie89 04-11-2015 04:58 PM

And on the scream 4 example. I was actually one of those who watched it illegally when it was leaked. I enjoyed it so much I went to the cinema to see it, and later bought it on dvd
