Ireland marries it's first same sex couple...

Ireland has married its first same-sex couple since the new marriage legislation was passed by voters six months ago.

Cormac Gollogly, 35, and Richard Dowling, 35, were legally married at 8:30am on Tuesday morning in Clonmel, County Tipperary, the Irish Times reports.

“It’s great to be the first to do it,” Cormac told the paper. The couple were together for 12 years then formed a civil partnership in September and when the new legislation was passed, decided to return to South Tipperary to tie the knot.

The country began recognising same sex marriage on Monday, following passage of the Marriage Act 2015.

“Richard and Cormac are now going to seal their marriage with the giving and receiving of a ring. A ring is an unbroken circle - it has no beginning and no end. It symbolises unending and everlasting love and is an outward sign of the lifelong promise that you have made to each other,” said Mary Claire Heffernan, Senior Registrar for South Tipperary.

Mr Gollogly said that the couple wanted to keep the ceremony simple: "We didn’t want to detract from the main ceremony and debated what to do. We decided to keep it simple and decided to have lunch with the families in Dublin.”

Good luck and all the love in the world to them. I think a loving 12 year relationship is a far more solid basis for a marriage than the '4 months together, met on facebook, three months pregnant - who is the dad' heterosexual horror relationships so typical now and so often highlighted on shows like Jeremy Kyle.

God Bless them.

 They could not care though Marsh. Like two lags who have just been released from prison after years (which is a good analogy when you think about it) they couldn't give a shet about the dingy hole behind them. Their smiles of delight light up the photo anyway.

Makes me proud to be Irish and Gay. (Wait a minute.... I'm neither... Oh well. :cheer2::laugh: (Well, I'm one quarter Irish and a bit gay.:hehe:)

 THAT would have been absolutely brilliant if they'd have grabbed a brolly and done a Gene Kelly.

Congratulations to them.

Richard & Cormac could be a Cheese Brand couldn't it?:joker:

I guess the marriage meant more than the venue, I doubt people will be flocking it after that pic though

Couldn't agree more (although the 3 months pregnant thing might be a bit difficult for them ). They look so happy!

I know right?

They're bloody gay, do it in style guys. https://fbcdn-profile-a.akamaihd.net...82d18bdfe8b400

Yeah Kirk, I think the lack of ovaries gives them an advantage when it comes to the unplanned pregnancies. :fan:

Jamie89 18-11-2015 09:58 AM

One of my (girl) friends was like 'I really hope you get married someday', and I was like 'Aw that's such a nice thing to say thanks', and she was like 'yeah coz you're gay so it'll be all pink chandeliers and fountains and ice sculptures and sht'. Well if you want to pay for all that love, be my guest!

Crimson Dynamo 18-11-2015 10:17 AM
