People who say "oh I dont like children"

Selina from the Apprentice said last night "I dont like children"

What is going on with people who say that, what are they really saying or trying to get you to think about them?

Niamh. 26-11-2015 11:56 AM

That they're tough and not maternal maybe? Maybe a woman in business feels the need to "masculine" herself up so she's on a level playing field with the men? Maybe they just hate children but why say it? Definitely trying to make some sort of statement about themselves

I thought this too. Selina seems to me the type to put on a facade, I think that's what she was doing.

It's her choice. Liking children is not compulsory, and I feel there are probably many more men who are not yearning to be a parent than there are women.

well she must have liked children when she was a child and I presume she likes children in her own family?

Maybe, I can't speak for her. I love my nieces... frankly though, other people's kids are not nearly so fascinating as their parents think they are.

Do you think it's more unacceptable because she's female?

Not sure but it sounds worse as she is a women I guess

To be honest I dont believe anyone who says that and as has been said it is said to nake you think something about the person rather than it being a true statement

No of course it isn't but I know people, my best friend for example, doesn't want kids but she's never said "I don't like kids". I can understand someone not wanting to have or care for kids but I mean kids are just little people, they're all individuals, saying that you don't like all kids seems more like something said to make people think something about you

Vicky. 26-11-2015 01:10 PM

Not wanting to have kids is miles away from not liking kids

Livia 26-11-2015 01:52 PM

Yeah, I see the whole "Dislike v Not wanting them" argument. But I do kind of see her point. Maybe I'll feel differently if I have my own, but kids are a bit of a pain in the arse if you ask me. Little attention sponges.Puppies though, or kittens... now you're talking.

Kizzy 26-11-2015 01:56 PM

I think asking some women in their 20s you'll get a very different response to the same women in their 30s... I blame the saturn returns

Well the fact that you are actually considering having your own must mean that you can't dislike kids that much :fan:

Nobody likes a smartarse, Niamh. Especially not another smartarse.

You're right I suppose. I don't feel very maternal ordinarily, although like I said I do love my nieces and would do anything for them. Babies don't make me broody and I don't want to hold them. They cry, leak at both ends and are generally helpless. I hope that feeling goes away if ever I do have one though LOL...

I hear you. When my kids were little, I was a get down on the floor and play with them kind of mom. This summer a friend of mine from Germany had a crisis back home, and I and my daughter watched her boys for her for 4 weeks here while she was in Germany... I was a drinking coffee reading a book while they played kind of adult. I can't be enticed with the lego build or the tag in the park anymore :hehe:

the poo that explodesthrough the nappy, right up the back through the neck and onto the hair and the fresh nappy is way over there and you have the baby hoisted up by both legs and she is whacking her hand in the poo

:umm2:
