Plans for the City of London's tallest tower, One Undershaft, have been unveiled.
Just a fraction shorter than the Shard, the 73-storey tower could be the second highest column in the capital.

At 309.6m, the skyscraper will be 80m taller than the nearby Cheesegrater, which stands at 224m, and will dwarf the 180m-high Gherkin.

It will have a public square at its base, a free public viewing gallery and a sky-high restaurant, architects said.

"Most skyscrapers are used Monday to Friday, but One Undershaft will be used seven days a week, with visitors able to enjoy the new public square, viewing platform and restaurant every day," said Eric Parry, the architect behind the project.

"It will be the jewel in the crown of the City of London and something we hope Londoners will be very proud of."

do you not know what City of London refers to?

It's the financial district in London called City Of London, like where the Gherkin and Moorgate is.

"One Undershaft" is such a disappointment after Gherkin and Cheesegrater.

Indeed..cheddar, or even block of cheese would have been more appropriate.

They should have called that 'The Green Shaft'

Lol can't believe anyone hasn't realised it was April the fir... Oh wait it's December. So they really ARE naming a building after the veiny underside of the penis? Well that makes perfect sense..ooening right next door, a huge new stadium - "The Perplexing Ballsack".

i don't like it. same with the shard it looks like it's unfinished. it looks like it has scaffolding on it. The best thing i can say is that the design style is similar with the glass and unfinished look... but i just don't like that style.

Shaun 08-12-2015 01:15 PM

Bit gross.

Tom4784 08-12-2015 01:16 PM

What an ugly building.

Yes I agree with that - it'll look like the scaffolding has been added as an afterthought to stop the building from falling over . Also it sort of looks like they block out a load of windows?? Who's going to want those offices :joker:. "And here you have beautiful panoramic views of a ****ing massive steel beam right outside the window. Look, there's a seagull building a nest on it..."

bots 08-12-2015 01:36 PM

it looks like the architect was doing a cross section drawing and forgot to erase the cross section marks before they built it :joker:

RichardG 08-12-2015 01:43 PM

Yeah it doesn't look great

Kizzy 08-12-2015 02:21 PM

Have these effectively got the structural framework on the outside, how do glass buildings work?
It looks very utilitarian.

Livia 08-12-2015 02:29 PM

Ugly, ugly, ugly.
