Do Not Rescusitate abused again....

People should be sacked and face criminal charges for this...1200 mentally disabled people a year die because of illegal DNR's issued in british hospitals

Hospital sorry for 'do not resuscitate' order on patient with Down's Syndrome

A hospital trust has apologised for placing a "do not resuscitate" (DNR) order on a patient with Down's Syndrome - and listing his learning difficulties among the reasons for doing so.

The family of Andrew Waters was not consulted or informed and found out only after he was discharged from hospital in Margate, Kent, in 2011.

East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust has admitted breaching his human rights.

'Scandal'

The learning disability charity Mencap described Andrew Waters' case as "unacceptable".

Its head, Jan Tregelles, said: "Many families who have lost their loved ones to poor care within the NHS have told us about the inappropriate use of DNR.

"There have been circumstances where these notices have been applied without the knowledge or agreement of families.

"And the orders have also been applied hastily, in inappropriate situations, solely on the basis of a person's learning disability.

"This highlights the failures of care that are a daily reality for many people with a learning disability trying to get access to good quality healthcare.

"1,200 people with a learning disability are dying avoidably in the NHS every year.

"The Government must take action to ensure that people with a learning disability get the right

Truly abhorrent. Incredible and abhorrent.

I'm not shocked, I think there is a drive to rid the UK of old, sick, poor and mentally incapable people.

This is truly awful. Learning disability is no excuse whatsoever. Who made them God to decide who lives and who doesn't.? BASTARDS.

Hospitals placing DNR orders on patients without consent? I never even knew that happened, how awful.

DNR is becoming the default action applied to everyone. It is a lot less effort, and results in many fewer court cases.

That's atrocious, but why am I not surprised the way things are going especially under this government anyway where the old, and sick are concerned, so can't see this government intervening in this, just probably silently applauding instead.

this was happenning a hell of a lot under labour too and the left wing ignored it as it wasn't part of their agenda and they were in with the unions....its a farking disgrace and it happens way way more than we realise. throw in 25000 people per year die in british hospitals on average from undiagnosed blood clots they pick up in hospital....lets not even talk about Stafford hospital where over 1000 people died of thirst....and yet all the media talks about is right to die...WHAT ABOUT THE RIGHT TO FARKING LIVE? THE NHS HAS BEEN IN FREEFALL FOR 20 YEARS AND THERE IS A MINORITY OF STAFF WHO SHOULD BE WEEDED OUT AND FIRED ASAP
