Star Wars The Force Awakens review - George Lucas

http://screencrush.com/george-lucas-...wakens-review/

I'm really excited about the new Star Wars film so this worries me slightly. It's not exactly a review, just a couple of comments, but still.

I wouldn't worry too much, other than the initial vision I think Star Wars outgrew Lucas and that it isn't exactly what he would want - but might be more what fans want - isn't necessaily a bad thing at all. Some of his tinkering with the early films is awful, and there are more than a couple of questionable elements...

Doesn't really matter for me, so long as the Lightsaber battles are well choreographed I'll leave the cinema happy :joker:. The Phantom Menace is both my favourite and least favourite of the Star Wars films. Because;

- It isn't really a very good film, and that little Anakin arsehole...

BUT

+ Darth Maul lightsaber fights are, in my humble opinion, the best in the entire live action series.

So yup. I'm there for the glowing swords and not a whole lot else TBQFH.

You summed up my thoughts on the Phantom Menace perfectly :joker:

Yeah that's true I suppose. And I kinda feel the same about Phantom Menace :laugh: I remember loving it as a kid but then completely changing my mind about it later lol, apart from certain elements like the fight scenes etc.

It would be very, very difficult for them to make a worse film than either Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones, which Lucas himself made. I'd wait until some proper critics review it first before being worried.

The dialogue in Phantom Menace is embarrassing. Agree with Locke, PM and AOTC are the worst two by far. 7 looks great but then again...this happened..

The one lad at the end is the one guy in the world that wasn't in denial :laugh:

Still quite upset with Han Solo´s passing. Hope he makes some kind of return in the next one. And played by Harrison Ford, not some young punk.

George Lucas isn't gonna like a different vision of Star Wars to his own.

And version even.

Ford only agreed to do episode 7 on the condition that the character would be killed off / otherwise made unavailable for future films. That's why he was featured heavily in the main cast of this one whereas Luke had one scene and Leia had more of a supporting role (as they will be continuing).

Ford is 73 years old, the other old cast members are only in their early 60's... He did a decent job in force awakens considering his age but you could tell the physicality of it was a drain. As it would be, 73 is straight up elderly! So sad as the characters' demise was, I think it was sensible for Ford to make this a one-time-deal with his return.
