2 hour epic documentary on ITV earlier, which for once really was epic. I know they have these types of shows on a lot. But this was brilliantly made and really captured the essence and magic of the fab four.

The reason I put this on serious debates is, because well, where has all the fun and innocence gone? Where are todays beatles and stones, or queen or elvis?

Ive always loved all these great musicians, its always fun to compare and contrast and say who was the best singer, guitarist, song writer etc

But tonight for the first time in years we really took the time to get re lost in the magic of the beatles. Hear more about their past, the history and Genesis of each great number 1 and bask in the humour and genius

Noel Gallacher said something interesting, it was their simplicity that made them so powerful. Throughout they kept a kind of innocence and awesome humour, personally I thought hard days night (The movie) was a masterpiece. They were endlessly creative, brave, funny, heartfelt, linguistic, sardonic, warm, kind, effervescent....heck I can see exactly why all the girls went gaga and the boys just wanted to be one of them...they came from nowhere, in terms of wealth or opportunity but so rich in culture and the character of the people...with guitar a pen and paper and a drum kit (and yes ok the odd spliff) they basically took over the free world.

EVERYONE was inspired, absolutely everyone. I along with billions of others have been lost in fantasy land for years on their magical mystery tour and their yellow submarine, shopping in their penny lane picking strawberry fields forever with the eggman and the walrus and his pilchards climbing up the Eiffel tower....as a kid they took us on a voyage into willy wonkas world of imagination

every clip was classic, every interaction was sweet and innocent and usually hilarious..it was just magic times. I know some will scoff and tell me it wasn't really like that and this was wrong and that was wrong.....sorry I reject you, it was magic and the public knew it. the sales are the highest in the history of the entire free world, billions sold....the crowds went nuts, the 1st time they went on ed Sullivan 40% of the entire American population tuned in, that's 73 million at the time. no bling no swearing no guns no violence just armed with a shirt and tie , a guitar a song and a cheeky smile

when did that become not enough for us to be happy?

In times where we seemed hooked on ever hyped up insane news, insane attention seeking people, insane movies and insane music too, full of rappers guns and violence and mindless aggression...I look back with enormous nostalgia at these wonderful creative times where each and every artist from the king to jerry lewis, little Richard, the stones, chuck berry, marvyn gaye, Gloria gaynor, Aretha, Otis, Joplin, marley,dylan, hendrix, orbison, etc all seemed to inspire each other to even greater work

One of the saddest thing I ever saw was a classroom of kids in the middle east recently asked to draw from their imaginations ...what did they draw? death, torture, killings ...tragic. Those poor kids weren't as lucky as us

The beatles allowed us to draw submarines, gave us sergeants peppers lonely hearts, day tripping, tickets to ride, sent us on the long and winding road, sang about michelle , girl, and Eleanor rigby, who the heck writes such heart breaking poetry at such a tender age...sang endlessly about simple love and wanting to hold your hand, then ripped your hearts out with the ballad of john and yoko , blackbird, something or yesterday or McCartney singing about his mother mary coming to him to tell him to let it be ....all done with a glint in one eye and a tear in the other!

Look we're English so we tend to hold back on hyperbole, but damn it this was the greatest pop group that has or ever will be....we really need to re remember that and re celebrate the wonderment of the beatles...I believe they were as the song goes the true revolution. as time passes their greatness will only grow as will the richness of the communities they came from.....and the endless artists who will hopefully keep following in their slipstream!

Maybe its time we went back these simpler joys and used them to inspire kids away from the horrors of a world of hunger , war and no imagination.
Lest we forget a simple football brought the Nazis and allies together for one peaceful afternoon. You cant quantify it in records and numbers. Some rare artists simply change the world for the better!

Its odd, but only yesterday I was thinking the exact same thing. I'd momentarily heard someone singing on the tv and was captivated by her voice (no idea who she was) and that got me thinking about singers of our past like Whitney Houseton. I was brought up in a household where music was loud and constant and as a child I knew every word to most of Billy Holiday, Aretha Franklin and Ella Fitzgerald's songs. What happened to these amazing voices and fantastic lyrics?

Don't get me wrong, I love a whole genre of music from electro to drum and base but only certain artists can emotionally elevate me with their lyrics and outstanding voices and not one of those voices come from the here and now.

One Direction are better.

Ah yes. The Beatles, are to me, the GREATEST band ever, but the Stones are to me, the most EXCITING band ever.

'Paint It Black' - an all time unbeatable gem.

(I absolutely love the beautifully sad 'As Tears Go By' and 'Ruby Tuesday' too.)

A cracking post Truth, They are simply THE GREATEST BAND who will ever be.

I think Dead Flowers and Sympathy For The Devil are my favs but i like the classics too.
