How big is your dogs understanding of what you say?

My dog knows a lot of words. Besides his array of command words he also knows 'cheese, cake, rabbit, what's that?' and numerous other words.

We like to think he's a clever little chap, so how is it when he's sitting on Steve's lap and I say, "where is Steve" he jumps off him and runs expectantly to the door? :conf:

I think he's probably used to that 'Where is Steve' command word - he knows he goes and waits by the door probably.

My dogs understand walkies, biscuit, dinner, bath, car, in, out, kitchen, and their names.

My jorkie thinks he can talk , he's adorable

My dog knows, Go to bed, Sit, easy (which means basically if you're handing her food, don't take my fingers off lol she's a bit of a hound when it comes to food) Walk, Get the cat ( that never works out well for her)

Kizzy 21-12-2015 11:47 AM

My Lab Duke knows lots of words and phrases too many haha! can't get away with anything with him around. Off the rug ,towel water, tea, weewee, in, out, bath, tea, treat, jake, nana, good, naughty, sit, paw, other paw, swim.

Firewire 21-12-2015 11:59 AM

He is completely clueless.

He understands his name and "come on" but that's about it.

When Gav pushes the recliner bit of his armchair in Pips knows that she's going for her night time walk

Our favourite is moving his lead to a different location and asking "wheres your lead" and watch him run to where it is and sit beside it barking :joker:

Ours died five years ago but off the top of my head he knew "sit", "lie down", "paw", "stay", "walk(ies)", "who's that?" (Which would set him off barking at the front door) and obviously his name / basic "good boy / bad dog / no / go on then..." stuff too. I miss him. Lovely temperament (he was a lab retriever).

My dogs understand: walkies, din dins, wee wee, sit, paw, stay, biscuit, coffee, tea, here, their names, lie down, bed, cat, leave, drop it, nicely, and come on, my boy does 'roll over' on command, and when i say 'where is it?' they look around as if to say...'i don't know, where is it, and what am i looking for?' i love my dogs:flutter:

I don't know how to talk to dogs. Even if it's just "sit" or "come here" they literally just stare at me then leave the room.

I hate baby talk. i find it so patronising and fake. Maybe that's why babies and dogs don't acknowledge what I'm saying.
