Transferring foreign currency

I have got quite a lot of Euros left over from my last trip and have just been keeping them on hold because I figured I'd go back to Europe again in the near future, but I'm planning on visiting the US now and would ideally like to change them over directly to Dollars rather than to Pounds and then to Dollars (to avoid dealing with the awful exchange rates twice), but from what I've seen on most of the online stores this isn't possible. Does anyone know of a store that does it?

..there's no one you know who is going to Europe any time soon, that you could exchange them with them for GBP and then get the dollars later when you need them..?..

Only one I can think of from the top of my head that is leaving the Country soon is going to Egypt

Ammi 27-12-2015 04:55 AM

..I'm not sure that you will be able to because Euros aren't our currency so will possibly just have to change them back to GBPs first, I know that's a pain...you could send them to Karl or Niamh to change for you...

Would the bank not do it? reckon you could probably change them at an airport as well

Think airports are generally the worst for their exchange rate but the bank could be a good call, I'll have to check their site

...I've just asked my OH..(he doesn't think a bank will do it because they would lose commission but isn't sure..)..he said the airport would but as you say, a rubbish exchange rate..but suggested that you take them with you and change them at a bank in the US..?...I am going to Sainsbury's later though, so I will ask at their travel exchange bureau and let you know if they suggest anything also...

Yeah think I'll probably end up changing them over once I'm there if I don't cave in and just do it the EUR>GBP>USD way cos so far it doesn't look like anywhere does it the way I want. And thanks, appreciate it.

I think the only way to do it to avoid changing it back to sterling would be do to it when you get to the States

...(at Sainsbury's travel exchange..)..they said the same as my OH, that it's bank regulations to change it back to sterling first so the only way to do it, would be to take the euros with you and change them in the US...so really, whatever you decide to do...

The Post Office is a good place for currency. Their exchange rate is usually pretty good too.

Here is a good site. I've used them in the past, you can change whatever you want 1 way.
