Volunteering

I went to go see someone today about volunteering in charity shops to fill up my week :) Have any of you ever volunteered to work somewhere?

Lostie! 07-01-2016 04:33 PM

I used to volunteer in a PDSA charity shop and I'm looking to start in an RSPCA shop soon. Definitely go for it. :)

King Gizzard 07-01-2016 04:35 PM

Yea, a shop for a childrens hospice when I was out of work

It's always good for your cv

I left though cause they started to want me in all the time like I was actually being paid for it..

I used to work in an RSPCA shop in Bury

I enjoyed it but the slogan on the shop front never sat well with me

"Helping Bury animals"

:umm2:

I volunteered at the PDSA too, for 2 and a half years

Tom4784 07-01-2016 04:44 PM

Yeah, I did it for a while with BHF a few years back, it's worth doing it for your CV.

Babayaro. 07-01-2016 04:45 PM

It hasn't worked well on my CV lmao

Haha  I went to school in Bury.....there are a few animals there that deserve burying (not the four legged kind mind)

Yeah did a year in a charity shop for Cancer Research when I was in Sixth Form! I liked it. It was really nice around christmas time when you could sell things for charity. I made the most money for the charity and I'm pretty proud of that tbh

Yeah I volunteered at the British Heart Foundation and it looks good on your CV/uni application. Although I exaggerated by duties in my CV :hee:

Five summers and easters, starting from the age of 12. I was helping in a respite program for disadvantaged/at risk children. It was very rewarding, kept me off the streets too. I also fostered puppies and kittens who had been orphaned since I was around 11 in association with the animal welfare association of the city.

You're right, benefits scroungers like me would never do a day of work, I actually spent all of those days drinking cider in the tesco parking lot
