Out In Shops : Mein Kampf : Copyright ran out

[A new version of Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf will be published in Germany
next month for the first time in 70 years.
The edition will include 3,500 academic notes to
challenge his anti-semitic rantings.
The book, which translates as "My Struggle", was first written in 1924 while
Hitler was in prison for a failed coup against the new German Republic. ]

Always wanted to read it.Seems pricey though. Also there needs to be a raw version without all these so called 'academic notes'.

The first half of it or so is quite an interesting read because he shows how he went from being a pretty liberal minded person to becoming the person who held such extreme views and the triggers for that, then it gets exceptionally dull when he starts using lists that are like twenty points long and each point has about three pages of explanation before he gets onto the next one over really boring, unimportant ****. I stopped reading.

My old flatmate is German and his grandparents have a signed copy of it, given to them on their wedding day!

He needed a good editor and he did not get one, its an example of why writers need publishers

Mao Tse Tung killed around 45 million people and you can buy his Little Red Book quite freely. Same with Stalin, mass murderer of millions, his The Foundations of Leninism is freely available. I don't see why Mein Kampf should be sold under the counter, Hitler was an amateur compared to those two. My father owns a copy and has managed to avoid Nazism.

It's due to the ideology behind it, not everything can or should be reduced to numbers.

Amy Jade 09-01-2016 03:22 PM

^

It's the ideology that needs tackling and that's why there are advisory notes at the beginning so people don't pick it up and end up radicalising themselves. Most people know murder to be wrong whereas with racism, some people still need to be reminded.

Having said that, you wouldn't see me picking up any of their books, and certainly wouldn't want to be seen carrying one.

Perhaps while we're pulling all the historical statues down, we can burn the books. Make a weekend of it.
