Furious Emma Willis praised after grilling Winston McKenzie

Furious Emma Willis praised after grilling Winston McKenzie about 'homophobic' views in passionate exit interview

The host received huge cheers from the crowd as she laid in to the controversial housemate

Emma Willis struggled to contain her emotions as she interviewed first Celebrity Big Brother evictee Winston McKenzie tonight.

The host grilled the controversial star, after he was voted out by his own housemates tonight in a shock twist.

Comparing his time in the house to boxing - which infuriated Emma more than words - Winston began by saying: "I’m a boxer. Amateur professional. I thought I knew everything. But when I walked into the house and heard other people’s stories, anxieties, what they’ve been through, I realised you don’t know everything.

"There are people out there who really give it their all... It's such a revelation for me."

However, while he's softened - his views haven't changed.

Winston was GRILLED by Emma

Winston made headlines with his views about gay adoption in November 2012.

The 62-year-old made his opinion known when he said children deserved to be raised by a heterosexual or single family.

Have you adopted children into a family with gay parents? We'd love to hear your response to this story. Get in touch using the form below or email yourmirror@mirror.co.uk

Winston refused to back down

"To say to a child, 'I am having you adopted by two men who kiss regularly but don't worry about it' – that is abuse," the Metro reported him saying.

"It is a violation of a child's human rights because that child has no opportunity to grow up under normal circumstances."

It angered his housemates tonight, as they questioned his statements, and Emma was quick to jump onboard too.

Emma said: "People watching are the people that are voting for you," before pleading with the star to stop comparing everything to boxing.

Winston responded: "People are entitled to their opinions. I'm being portrayed as a people hater. There are people in life who are gay and they've fought long and hard for their rights and I respect that. We live in a democratic society and we have the right to our opinions."

Emma then responded: "It's not that people think you shouldn’t have opinions. It’s comparing adoption to child abuse - thats very offensive."

Winston began to say: "I’m Christian," but Emma stopped him and said: "That doesn’t come into it."

Emma got emotional

He went on: “I expressed my feelings at the time. It doesn’t mean to say that I’m one to tell someone who wants to adopt a child, that they can’t do so, I don’t make the rules.

"My comment was made in the heat of the moment, the press were on me, it was a General Election and they got what they were looking for. So whatever comment I made at that time, it wasn’t something that was done from the heart. The simple fact is they portrayed it the way, however spiteful they wanted. I agree with my heartfelt feelings. I’m not going to change my mind, or the way I am.”

Winston sparked OUTRAGE

However, not being swayed, Emma asked him to confirm if he stands by his statements about gay adoption, and Winston replied: “Would you like me to sit here and lie?

"We don’t need to go over it again. I’ve made my statement.”

Emma replied: "So you still agree with it. It's sad people still think that it's OK," before adding: "You're discounting such a large part of the population."

He went on to say: “The work I do for homeless children and mothers, and people who are destitute, I can match any MP because people know me as the man of the people. I step in as I know what it is to struggle.”

The expectant star than unleashed her fury all over again on CBBBOTS.

She said: “It was infuriating and frustrating to interview him but it was good to get into it really.

Emma said she stands by her interview approach

“He was what they would call typical politician. He didn’t want to answer what I was asking him. He wouldn’t admit to comparing gay adoption to child abuse but he wouldn’t deny it either. That’s why I kept pushing him on that comment.

“Then he said to me, ‘I don’t want to sit here and lie to you’ - so he pretty much did admit it. It’s really sad.”

Emma also admitted she could have been more impartial during her interview with Winston.

But she told presenter Rylan that she was going to stand by her approach.

“I know some people think I could have been more fair, but I have my beliefs,” she explained. “And I am NOT homophobic.

“If you can give a child a home and love then it doesn’t matter if the parents are gay or of different races or whatever. Children just need love. And that’s why Winston’s comments offended me so much.”

A small handful of the usuals are supporting Emma with posts on speed dial but alas their opinions are in the minority when you look at the overall number of people pilloring CBB for her blatant personal attack on him.

IE volume of posts might be in favour of Emma but volume of people on social media don't agree with her personal attacks.

The opening line in the article?

chuff me dizzy 09-01-2016 01:09 PM

She certainly wasn't praised on Facebook !!!!!

ThriceShy 09-01-2016 01:13 PM

Emma displayed her latent ageism, racism and misandry last night. She laid into a black man in his 60s for an opinion he gave last year and she will no doubt completely ignore Darren Day's loverat status and his £2000 per week drug habit and Danniella's drug abuse and all the other things these "celebs" are known for.

hang your head in shame Emma for group bullying the easiest target that you could find.

Apparently that doesn't count, whilst this fine example of an article does :hee:
