Cat ladies on facebook

I've read this comment three times today posted by three different members being used in an attempt to be offensive, is it acceptable to refer to women who post on face book in this way on this forum?

I agree Cherie, its ok for people to be offensive about others but when it hits home they burst a blood vessel, I see a lot of men post on FB too.

I don't understand how being called a "cat lady" is an offensive term. Many people have cats

AnnieK 09-01-2016 04:06 PM

I don't even understand what it means

Well it's mainly used in a derogatory way to be fair, and it's a negative stereotype.

It's similar to when certain acts on shows like X Factor do well in the votes and people say it's down to the "grannies".

I think it is used to mean they are lonely women with just cats and FB for company

You explained it better Lostie

How is it offensive? I ****ing love cats and have used this term :umm2: it's descriptive, not an insult

And regardless, it would be a bit of a stretch to say that insulting people who post on Facebook is against the rules of this forum. It's Facebook, not TiBB. Where do you draw the line? People regularly slag off people on Tumblr on here, but there's bound to also be people who use it on here too, is that against the rules?

Just shows how many sheep are about Cherie, this is why straight talkers who think for themselves without having to follow the crowd are not liked on here ,Proud to think and speak for myself, I NEVER,EVER follow

Except for the 598 other people you keep mentioning that have liked certain comments you've agreed with or posted

You used it to generalise about the people supporting Winston on FB, how is that not offensive to women, when men will have posted on there as well

Its really pissed you off that so many PEOPLE don't agree with you hasn't it ? I thought you was leaving ? :wavy:

wendywillow 09-01-2016 04:14 PM

cat ladies are considered the people who like "the nice people" and the hot guys. usually, not really an offensive term. kind of silly

I was leaving the other thread, not the forum sweety...you haven't got rid of me that easily I'm afraid.

Why have you capitalised the word 'people'? It's not as if so many other 'ANIMALS' would have agreed with you is it? Or is it? :umm2:

There are far more people who agree with me than do with you so I really don't care. And again, 599 people out of 2 million is a very small percentage. Do the maths.

Don't play the innocent, you know exactly what it means :hehe:

Usually its the 'tween girls' or something on facebook. Depends what they are arguing about. And when facebook goes with the forum opinion, all of a sudden it should be listened too also. Its amusing sometimes.

I pay no attention to the facebook comments at all. Its just more opinions, same as forums.

smudgie 09-01-2016 04:16 PM

Well, you live and learn.
I thought it was something totally different...I won't explain what as I would hate to offend people unintentionally.:blush:

Northern Monkey 09-01-2016 04:17 PM

What is a cat lady?
(I love me some pussy)

Vicky. 09-01-2016 04:17 PM

Cat lady to me always meant (sorry if this offends anyone..but this is what it means here) like... the crazy old woman who lives alone down the street and has 20 cats for company. Its used as a derogatory term, and to suggest otherwise is a bit silly.

Really I wouldn't consider Winston a particularly nice or hot guy!

Yeah, exactly this. I've always known it to be primarily used as an insult.

The funny thing is people accuse me of listening to Facebook when it supports my view but I don't. Every year when people post the Facebook likes of housemates in a bid to try and work out who'll go/win I repeat that the Facebook cat ladies aren't representative of the overall viewership. Because they aren't. Just as we on this forum aren't either.

It's a few hundred people in a couple of million, we're talking a 0.03% sample.
