X Factor NOT in top 40 most-watched TV shows of 2015 after low ratings all series

Over the weekend the singing show suffered it's lowest ever ratings for a final

The X Factor did not make it into the top 40 most-watched TV shows of the last year.

The show – which has been dogged by low ratings all series – missed out on the list to a series of BBC shows and its sister show Britain’s Got Talent .

More than half of the top 40 most-watched programmes so far in 2015 were broadcast by BBC1, while the rest were ITV. No other channels made the list.

The X Factor Final 2015 failed to set viewing figures alight

ITV's highest entry is the final of Britain's Got Talent, which is at number two with just under 13 million viewers.

The show appears a total of seven times in the chart, while another ITV series, I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!, appears four times.

The chart, which was compiled by the Press Association from data produced by the Broadcasters' Audience Research Board (Barb), shows that all 10 episodes of this year's series of The Great British Bake Off are in the list, with seven inside the top 10.

EastEnders appears three times, including both of the 30th anniversary episodes broadcast on February 19.

But it is Strictly Come Dancing which dominates the top 40, appearing a total of 12 times - a number that could increase after the transmission on December 19 of the show's grand final.

The figures for ITV also include the ITV HD and ITV+1 channels. If these were removed from the calculations, BBC1 programmes would make up 39 of the top 40.

For the top 40 to change before the end of the year, a programme will need to attract an audience of at least 10.5 million viewers.

Over the weekend ITV was left red-faced as X Factor pulled in its lowest ever final ratings.

Figures suggest the show was a whopping 2million down from last year's Saturday night final, with 8.14million tuning in to see Croydon born Ben Haenow get through to Sunday's final.
On the Sunday of the final 8.4 million watched 17-year-old Louisa Johnson crowned the winner of the twelfth series over group Reggie and Bollie.

It was the biggest audience of the entire series, but the figures won't be much of a relief to ITV bosses as they were at their second lowest in the show's 11 year history.

Numbers were only sightly higher than the lowest ever recorded final, in which 8.1million watched Steve Brookstein in 2004.
