I don't think she cares considering she wants out

It's too early, Gemma can easily use this as the basis of a redemption arc and get herself into contention. It needed to be a week/ three days before the final when she has no chance to react to it.

If she survives, she will probably go into the poor little misunderstood me routine.

I fail to see how she could redeem herself. She doesn't seem to have the backbone or will power to stick at anything that remotely resembles striving for something, or even listening to other people for a change.
