Doctor Who- Series 10 Is To Be Moffat's Last

"Steven Moffat has decided that his “timey wimey” as showrunner of Doctor Who has come to an end and he will step down as the show’s lead writer and executive producer after six series at the helm, RadioTimes.com can reveal.
Moffatt will hand over the keys to the TARDIS at the end of the next series in 2017 to Broadchurch writer and Doctor Who fan Chris Chibnall.

BBC1 has decided to air Moffat’s final 12-part series - the 10th of the modern era - in spring 2017. Chibnall’s debut series as head writer and executive producer will launch in 2018.
A Christmas special WILL air this year overseen by Moffat, though it is unclear whether Peter Capaldi’s new companion will feature. The companion, who will replace Jenna Coleman's Clara Oswald, will definitely be in place for the spring 2017 series, say BBC sources."

Shame. I preferred Moffat as show runner to Davies. Does this mean the Doctor is gonna change too, like last time?

Tragic

Here for Chris

Yes, thank god!

Have to say I'm very shocked- wasn't expecting to hear any news so soon. Very sad that Moffat is leaving, as whether you love or hate what he's done with the show, he has turned it into a global hit and I really hope he ends on the high note he deserves. I'm not sure what to think about Chris Chibnall- I'm not a fan of some of the episodes he's written, but he has good experience of running a show with Broadchurch. Besides, he may write some better episodes when given the responsibility of launches, finales etc.

My choice would have been Toby Whithouse, but I'm very excited about what Chris is going to bring to the show,

um @ Spring 2017

mess

Moffat's era has been hit and miss but 2014–15 were pretty solid with only a few dud episodes. But 2010–13 had more poor episodes than amazing ones.

I'm sure it's time for a shake-up though and hopefully Chris Chibnall will do the show justice.

Bye Felicia.

Moffat being spiteful and depriving us of an entire year :nono:

Tom4784 22-01-2016 09:25 PM

It's time I think, the latest season has been sensational but it's time to hand over the reins.

Pressed about there not being a season this year though.

I love Broadchurch but....

42, The Hungry Earth, Cold Blood, Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, The Power of Three. :yuk:

Oaker 22-01-2016 09:28 PM

(At least Chris Chibnall can write female characters)

I didn't like Torchwood. :/

Then again I loved Moffat's episodes during RTD's tenure and have hated much of his reign so I suppose it's never an indication.

It's the right time, basically The Husbands of River Song was the culmination of most of Moffat's plot threads, if he did more series' they'd just sort of trundle along with no overarcing stories. I wonder if this means The Minister of War will be in S10?

Ashley. 22-01-2016 09:56 PM

I think 42 was well written it just lacked excitement. I assume it was put there purposefully to establish a greater bond between the Doctor and Martha (they weren't really that close) and thus make the audience have a little more care for them in Human Nature when they were emotionally separated.

I don't think we've seen Chibnall at his best as he's only ever really been used for filler episodes. It'll be nice to have some fresh ideas though as Moffat has gone extremely stale.

I suppose we have that "Class" spin off this year (if its any good)

Lostie! 22-01-2016 10:19 PM

So we're definitely not getting a full series this year?

Scarlett. 22-01-2016 10:37 PM

Just the Christmas special, and a spin off series.

Glenn. 23-01-2016 11:59 AM

There was a rumour on DS that the Christmas Special would be the first episode of Series 10.

I knew S10 would be Stevens last. I didn't expect to have to wait a year for it though :fist:

Marsh. 23-01-2016 02:15 PM

So who is running the "Class" show? Have they said?
