Viola Beach driver 'looks like plunged off bridge intentionally', say Swedish police
http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/...m_3574526b.jpg Swedish police believe the driver of the car in which Warrington indie band Viola Beach plunged to their deaths last month “probably acted intentionally”, after studying video footage of the moments before the crash. The band’s four members and their manager were killed early in the morning on February 13 when their car plummeted 80ft into a canal near Stockholm, after smashing through a gap in a motorway bridge which had opened to let through a passing vessel. New video footage of the run-up to the crash, viewed and reconstructed by Sweden’s Aftonbladet newspaper, shows the car coming to a near halt behind a lane of cars waiting for the bridge barriers to open, then swerving out onto a narrow hard shoulder, crashing through the barriers and accelerating towards the bridge. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...sh-police.html |
omg, was it a paid driver or was it one of the band driving the car?
|
The title is missing the word "probably".

He might have Thought he could make it over in time..judgement could have been fudged if he was overtired, drunk of under another influence.
People do the same crossing railway barriers, on foot and in cars. Tragic end. |

Very True Livia LT common |
I think maybe he thought he was in the wrong lane or something  I doubt he wanted to kill everyone
|
Maybe the band decided to sack the manager or something like that and he took it badly
|
This is terrible

Yes Cherie "Probably" needs to be in the title If it does not fit LT remove "indie" and /or "say" |

It seems unlikely. My bet would be "under the influence", to be honest. |

Apparently there has been a mistake in translation from Swedish to English and intentionally is not the correct word.

New reconstruction footage of the incident published by Swedish media today shows a traffic queue forming behind a raised bridge. The driver appears to then overtake the stationary traffic before braking and then accelerating through the crash barrier. Lars Berglund, lead investigator on the case, told Mirror Online: "There is no suggestion that it was intended to kill himself or the band. Berglund added: "Maybe he had not discovered the barriers in front of those cars standing still. "His speed may have been too high for stopping. "I have not suggested that [the driver] was doing this in order to kill himself or the band. "I said he was making a move from the right lane to the left lane and that was not accidental. "We can see the brake lights. His intention was to stop the car. But maybe his speed was too high and it was too late." |
oh dear what a mess, this will not play well for the families

..the Swedish police have explained the mis-translation of 'intentional'/'deliberate'...the manoeuvre made was thought to be deliberate to possibly avoid a collision or something but the car wasn't deliberately driven off the bridge...
