Ofcom reveals Big Brother is the most complained about programme ever

It shouldn't be much of a surprise that reality TV seems to be the most complained about out of everything on the box, and it turns out that Big Brother and The X Factor beats them all.

Ofcom has released a list of the most complained about shows in the 12 years since the media regulator was formed and Big Brother has topped the list for seven of them.

Over the years there's been bullying scandals, fix complaints and other generally disapproving behaviour on Big Brother, in both the civilian and the celebrity editions, generating a whopping number of almost 74,000 complaints, according to The Sun.

Ofcom's list of the top 10 most complained about shows is as follows:

1. Big Brother / Celebrity Big Brother (C4 & C5): 73,788

2. X Factor (ITV): 20,548

3. Jerry Springer The Opera (BBC2): 8,860

4. UKIP: The First 100 Days (C4): 6,187

5. Sky News: 6,056

6. EastEnders (BBC1): 3,782

7. Britain's Got Talent (ITV): 3,747

8. Coronation Street (ITV): 3,566

9. The Wright Stuff (C5): 2,788

10. Emmerdale (ITV): 2,531

I thought Eastenders was supposed to have gotten like 10k+ complaints for the baby swap storyline?

Or was that to the BBC themselves rather than Ofcom?

Jason. 25-03-2016 01:59 PM

screaming at how like 60% of that 70k figure is from the complaints CBB5 got

Yeah normally complaints are passed to BBC Trust for BBC programmes

BB fans arent exactly known as being the shiniest buttons on the jacket so those figures are no suprise.

Racism and bullying[edit]
Main article: Celebrity Big Brother racism controversy
Celebrity Big Brother criticism focused around the treatment of housemate Shilpa Shetty by contestants Jade Goody, Jo O'Meara and Danielle Lloyd. UK media regulator Ofcom received more than 44,500 complaints

Cal. 25-03-2016 04:04 PM

Oh only 1,000 people complained about Nikki going back in, which is the same number who complained about Emily getting removed in BB8.

Reg_Holdsworth_Fan 25-03-2016 04:11 PM

No surprise there, considering how disgustingly PC the British public have become all of a sudden.

If I knew those idiots, I would take their phones away from them and hide them so that they don't have a say.
