Where did tea originate from?
As in some people saying tea instead of dinner or supper, seems odd as one of the most popular drinks in this country is tea so why would we call the evening meal that?
|
I never call dinner tea :idc:

Yer teas ooot means something quite different where Josy/Firewire lives
|
I've actually read something about this somewhere. Its something to do with the higher class having afternoon tea at like 4ish and the working class coming back from work around then and needing a large meal.

In Derbyshire you have your:
Breakfast (in the morning obviously) Dinner (mid day) Tea (evening meal 5-7pm) Supper (a bit of a snack late at night before bedtime) Nowt posh about having your tea. My Missus calls Tea supper but she is one of those foreign refugees!!! (she is from Scotland) |
It's a northern thing like mooning at Kirk and his girlfriends on their nights out :hee:

Yeah a lot of elderly people call like lunch dinner.
