The hit-and-run came as tensions continued to escalate in the Belgian capital, with police out in force on Saturday to ward off trouble after local authorities banned a scheduled anti-Islam rally and any counter-protests.

Several hundred people attempted to gather in defiance of the ban in Molenbeek where police arrested the sole surviving Paris attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam on March 18.


Meanwhile, smaller far-left groups were dispersed from a central Brussels square that has become a memorial to the victims of the airport and metro attacks of March 22.

Police said they briefly detained over 100 people but only two were kept in custody.

The hit and run came as authorities announced that Brussels’ Zaventem airport will partially reopen today, just 12 days after it was hit by twin suicide blasts.

Apparently it was other Muslims driving the car?

I'm struggling to understand the context of this video. Is it being suggested that it was a targeted attack? Why is the woman standing in the middle of the road / walking into the road as the car approaches? Why was the person who filmed it already filming - following the car - before it hit the woman? He wasn't filming something else and then just catching this by chance... He was specifically filming that car.

Was there already something else going on that had prompted the guy to start filming?

Yes that was very distressing. I would say this was a hit and run, the lady looks elderly and was crossing the road slowly I'd say the car was perhaps being chased and some were filming due to that?

I don't get how people can't separate normal everyday Muslims from ISIS?

because the day before a suicide bomber or plane hijacker attacks they look and sound just like all the "everyday muslims". the whole point is you can't tell which ones are terroists and which ones are "everyday muslims". they look and sound exactly the same.

The car didn't seem to be at much speed and the person hit seemed to be waiting for it to reach her.

And someone just happened to be filming and following the car's path?

Apparently, the offending vehicle had just speeded through a police roadblock, so perhaps that is the reason it was being filmed, but it is good news that the Belgian cops have arrested the driver and passenger:

"Police later announced that they had arrested two men, believed to have been the car's driver and passenger, who have been named as Redouane B. and Mohamed B - both of whom are thought to be residents of Molenbeek."

Are the names Redouane B. and Mohamed B the Belgian equivalent of the English names 'Alf' and 'Albert' or suchlike? I'm not al that au fait with foreign names.

But here we have those great TWIN TRUTHS which seem to be ignored by those who love to throw around those tired words; 'Xenophobic', 'Racist', and 'Islamaphobic' at the rest of us, and that is:

If she's just crossing the street and is meant to be elderly then why target her? It's not very likely that she's gonna be a threat is it?

Where do you get the impression she's been targeted for being a threat? That's not how hate crimes work.

It was just a crime... it wasn't a 'hate' crime at all.
People are just hellbent on reading into situations things that are not there.

We don't actually know what it was yet.

It was two t*ats in a car that knocked down an old lady, it wasn't a hate crime, or ISIS, just t*ats.

Hate crimes happen because they fear an aspect of that person, in this case is the woman being a Muslim.

As what a wise Film once said.

Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hatred, and hatred leads to the dark side of the force.

Hate crimes really fit that quote imo, and it seems to be the main thing as to why this incident has happened and I don't know why considering she's not gonna harm anybody at the moment crossing the street.

Things like this don't happen because they think that particular old lady is a terror threat.

It's a warped case of "they're attacking us so we'll attack them". Innocent people always caught in the crossfire.
