Something major needs doing ! My daughter was telling me that central Bristol has someone sleeping in almost every doorway (mostly young men) she was shocked by just how many ! This situation probably exists in every city in this country and it is disgusting. All in it together My arse.

Homelessness has gone up by 55 percent in this country since Cameron arrived in Downing Street. Homelessness went up by 40 percent in London between 2014-15 because of benefit cuts and welfare reforms.

The government have now claimed there are two types of homelessness...genuine homelessness and illegal homelessness. Illegal homelessness will no longer be counted amongst the homeless percentages.

My disabled friend who was housed several flights up in a run down hotel with no lift, was unable to climb the stairs. He told social services that he wasn't able to access his room because of his disability and so they suggested he was making himself intentionally homeless and therefore, taken off the homeless list.

I wouldn't call them victims!

What would you call them then? I mean, what would you call my friend who is registered disabled?

I would like to know how it wasn't noticed that your friend couldn't manage before he moved in.

He was in a nice flat but the landlord wanted to sell so he was given notice. He had enough savings plus his disability allowance to get another place but each private place he applied for was rejected by the agents and landlords. They simply didn't want someone on benefits in their properties. The council told him to stay put and become a sitting tenant but this guy had always had a good relationship with his landlord who had already supplied him with impeccable references.

The housing people eventually came up with a hotel hostel that he could go to and when he was shown around, he was shown a ground floor room but on the day of his arrival, the hotel owner had occupied that room and given him another room on the 3rd floor. Fortunately he had enough money to book himself into a hotel with a lift but because he did this, social services washed their hands of him.

Homelessness was there during Labour's time in govt and has been for decades, many leading people including princess Diana highlighted the plight of the homeless too.

However what is happening now is there are less organisations to help with the problem, charities are getting aid cut and this govt particularly via its friends in most of the hard hearted media, are demonising the homeless ad making it their fault they are homeless in the first place.

Nothing to do with govt policies such as bedroom tax and other cuts to support as to care and general help too.
Homelessness in the UK in the 21st century should be a National scandal ad it is growing again and has been through this govts time in power.

No one should be homeless,I am sick of visiting towns and seeing closed up building where big stores, shops, cinemas or offices were.
All of which would have plumbing and electricity supply and rather than just be left to falling into decay, could be used to ensure no one needs to sleep rough or have to worry about something to eat.

Often some of the homeless have mental health problems and general health problems too that never get addressed.
It is simply disgraceful and people should just be grateful they are not and will not hopefully ever be in that position themselves but to please show a little compassion and demand govts do a great deal more to protect and help the homeless.

I agree Joey, there is indeed a lot of mental health problems amongst the homeless, but that's care in the community for you.

We live in a nation where our government have successfully turned us against each other. Its a horrible state of affairs.

oh we must blame the government for the plight of the individual!
