Panama Papers: King of Saudi Arabia secretly donated $80M to Netanyahu's Israeli elec

Isaac Herzog, member of the Knesset and Chairman of the Israeli Labor party, revealed that Saudi king Salman bin Abdulaziz financed the election campaign of Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.

“In March 2015, King Salman has deposited eighty million dollars to support Netanyahu’s campaign via a Syrian-Spanish person named Mohamed Eyad Kayali. The money was deposited to a company’s account in British Virgin Islands owned by Teddy Sagi, an Israeli billionaire and businessman, who has allocated the money to fund the campaign Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu”, Herzog cited a leaked Panama Paper.

It's hard to enumerate all the people to whom this would be politically significant: the Israeli opposition; leadership rivals from Benjamin Netanyahu's own party; Islamists who are at odds with wahabiism; fighters in Yemen and other territories where Saudi is fighting direct or proxy wars, and the citizens and elites of those countries.

(Update): A spokesperson from Isaac Herzog’s office reached out to Al-Masdar News on Monday to confirm that this quote was fabricated.
So looks like a false story, probably why it didn't make it beyond online forums and the Iranian media

Oh come on! The last thing they want is this story splashed across Western media. Oh and its not just online, it is in the Middle East Observer, a popular paper throughout the Middle East.

Herzog cited a leaked Panama Paper, and whilst he may regret or try and retract that now, that doesn't really mean anything.

Herzog didn't cite a leaked Panama Paper because its a fabricated quote, your own source admits that! It's a fake story.

There are dangers in trying to get 'alternative news' and this is one of them
