Would we have seen the "xenophobia" in other BBs?
Would BBUSA have contestants pondering an HM's worthiness based on whether or not they were American? I always thought Canada was like, a more "accepting" for want of better word version of America, so I found that attitude surprising when it popped up.
In BBUK, Kim was never nominated by HMs or disliked by the public because "she's American and a Brit should win this". |
I don't watch BB Canada but I've definitely seen that attitude on the forum before when it comes to American contestants in BBUK
Yeah, I see that a lot on here and twitter when it comes to CBB.
I'm all for American contestants on Big Brother UK, but not when they're "token". I'm more likely to show interest in American contestants if they contribute something more to the show than just proof that the show has diversity.
Oh, really? I guess I need to look into social media more!
Do such attitudes get called out, as the Brothers did on here? |
In CBB7, Alex nominated Sisqo simply for being American because "it's a UK show".
tbh, I can't think of any, not in normal BB anyway... isn't that cos all UK HMs are UK citizens anyway/have UK passports?
Yeah, just look at our currents BOTS host - constantly telling Speidi to **** off back to America because this is the UK blahblahblah etc.
I was so suprised when i saw xenophobia on bbcan and actual fans supporting it. I thought Canada was all about acceptance..
There was a ton of "this is Big Brother UK not Big Brother USA!!!!!!!" and "get those silly americans off!!!!!!!!!" comments on the BB Facebook page during last summer's Celebrity Big Brother if that helps.
Not really from the housemates but there's certainly xenophobic comments made on this forum every series :idc:
