Man United to appoint Jose Mourinho

Manchester United are set to appoint Jose Mourinho as their new manager, BBC Sport understands.

It is believed a deal with the 53-year-old Portuguese was agreed in principle before United's FA Cup final win against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

With United failing to qualify for the Champions League under Louis van Gaal, the Old Trafford hierarchy is thought to have decided a change is required.

Mourinho has been out of work since he was sacked by Chelsea in December.

The club plan to announce his arrival early next week after telling Van Gaal, 64, his reign has come to an end

Somehow I feel Mourinho at man Utd will not turn out to be the success story that is hoped for in the end.

Calderyon 21-05-2016 10:38 PM

Surely this is mistake and a huge overreaction on their part. I mean i read they won F.A cup and only missed CL spot due to goals difference, so LVG wasn´t that bad, surely?

With Mourinho as GM Chelsea was in a process of getting relegated. Fortunately for them they saw what was happening and fired him.

Cherie 21-05-2016 10:40 PM

He is not exactly Arsene Wenger not sure why you are laughing :hee:

True but he only wanted a two year contract so he would go next year anyway as United insisted on 3

Can't wait for the media wankfest for the bore.

Nothing I want more than for him to fall flat on his face for another season. But I reckon he'll do good things for them.

Brother Leon 21-05-2016 11:15 PM

Can't wait to see him celebrating down the Andield touch line again.

GiRTh 21-05-2016 11:19 PM

He's one of the only managers who can turn that mess around. Looking for him to do well for the first couple of seasons but once he pisses off a few players it'll all turn sour.

Shaun 22-05-2016 02:35 AM

He's football's Avril Lavigne. Every time you think he's pissed off and died he comes back somehow worse.

Denver 22-05-2016 07:11 AM

He is a one season wonder and has been sacked from pretty much every job he has done so can't take the fans seriously when they think he will bring loads of success

SocietyIsRuined 22-05-2016 08:57 AM

Anybody would be better than LVG. Glad to see him gone. Football like that deserves to die out.

billy123 22-05-2016 10:18 AM

Sad to see LVG go but every cloud has a silver lining. Mourhino has a good success rate but it comes at the cost of future youth development,a serious lack of class, massive spending and wherever he goes it turns sour within 2-3 years ending up with the sack and a rebuilding job to be done by his ex-employers not to mention his defensive 1-0 grinding defensive style of play.

Should be fun to watch it unfurl and then fall to bits http://i903.photobucket.com/albums/a...leyGIF2000.gif

3 year contract, then I expect Giggs to get it

Giggs might be ok if they can keep his penis out of his own family for long enough to concentrate on the job.

He did not fail at Chelsea. The players failed him just like every other manager they have had. They did not exactly set the world a light after he went.
LVG could not stay. We have had the lowest goal scoring record in over 20 years & missed out on CL again. He has been dead man walking since Christmas.

A lot of managers only stay 2-3 years now. The Wengers/Fergies are now in the past. Giggs will make sure youth get's the chance.
Mourinho will be given time to build his squad.

Nicky91 22-05-2016 02:01 PM

but Van Gaal has won the FA Cup :(

Yep completely normal. 1 year to build your squad and spend all the money. 1 year to win stuff and 1 year to belittle female staff and destroy the youth system before being sacked for the squad he built turning on him for his dickhead behaviour.
Get in there!

Wouldn't class him as a one season wonder at all. He almost guarantees some kind of success wherever hes been. He's one of the most successful managers of our generation. His downfall is the state he leaves his clubs in, he created a toxic atmosphere around Chelsea and Madrid during his last 2 jobs. I'd be excited if i were a utd fan but concerned at the same time. He's one of those guys you'd love if he was at your club but despise if he wasn't

I thought that I was on my own with this, but if Man U fans feel that they're playing boring Football now, then good luck under Mourinho.

Van Gaul has been treated really badly by the press here, they didn't even congratulate him on his win yesterday just chose to focus on his future, I heard some hack interviewed this morning defending not congratulating him, saying they were there to do a story, I think most managers would have been congratulated, they chose not to do so with Van Gaul because he refused to bow down to the media, good on him, he can walk away with dignity

MTVN 22-05-2016 04:28 PM

Its a shoddy way to treat LVG, the guy doesn't even get the evening of his FA cup win to celebrate and finds out he's getting the boot instead

Both Manchester clubs have been poor in that respect this season, so infatuated with their ideal candidate that they show no respect for their current manager

Crimson Dynamo 22-05-2016 04:30 PM

2 awful clubs imo

Thankfully teams with class, like West Ham, operate on a higher moral level and thus keep the tone of the prem up
