Is this one of the saddest things you've ever read?

"EVERYONE PLEASE READ- I NEED A FAVOR

https://scontent.fman2-1.fna.fbcdn.n...9c&oe=57D42F57

This is my cousin Hallee. I'd like to tell you a little bit about her... First off, she is a beautiful young woman-both inside and out. She lights up a room with her smile.Hallee is funny, sweet, caring, smart, an athlete, a jigsaw puzzle champion, a wonderful student, and a best friend to all. Hallee is an amazing person-a person I am proud to be related to. She is also a person who just happens to have Autism. She has never let that small detail define who she is as a person-which is why I refuse to use it as something to describe her. A fun fact is that Hallee's Birthday is fast approaching! And this is where I have a favor to ask of all of you....

Below is a picture of Hallee last year at her 18th birthday party. She had been so excited to have a party with her friends. She wanted to go bowling, have fun, and eat cake and Ice Cream. Invitations went out to her classmates at school and to other friends in the area. Hallee sat at her party anxiously waiting for her friends to arrive so they could have fun....but Hallee's friends would never arrive. Not a single one. Below is the picture of her celebrating alone - eating her birthday cake. My cousin is a beautiful young woman who will always have the mind of a child...so as you can imagine, she was heartbroken and beyond sad. She was hurt...

This year we are having a large family party for her. But you can help make this years birthday incredible!! I would love to flood her mailbox with birthday cards, from all over! Hal loves getting mail- this would be the best birthday gift she could ask for. If you could find it in your heart to take a few mins out of your day and send her a card, I would be forever greatful. This would mean a lot to her mother as well, for as you can imagine, watching your child cry into her birthday cake breaks your heart. If there is anyone who deserves a great birthday, this is the girl. You can even give me the cards and I will mail them. Feel free to share this post!

Hallee's 19th Birthday is July 2nd

Address:
Hallee Sorenson
34 Wellesley Way
Bangor, ME 04401

Please help us make this birthday memorable.

Thank you,

Becky" ❤

This made me cry. My son is also autistic and my heart aches for him so often.
As soon as I finish writing this I'm going to pick out the nicest card I can find and send it to Hallee. I hope this year she has a wonderful birthday.:bday:

I genuinely find stories such as this heartwarming not heartbreaking, and this little girl - like so many other autistic people - is an example to all those whinging, whining, ingrates who are blessed with good health but consider themselves 'hard done to' in life.

The article also says as much about the huge heart and generosity of spirit of Becky - the author - as it does about the beautiful Halee.

I will buying and sending a very special card and a little gift.

I'm so cynical, I always assume these FB appeals are scams

I have to admit, that went through my head too... but it's only a card and a stamp so I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Do you know Niamh - that possibility NEVER crossed my mind, but you are right, it could be a scam. I think I am growing more gullible as I get older.

Well, you know the way you often see these things popping up on your FB feed that people keep sharing about missing people? I read somewhere a couple of weeks back (and this never even occurred to me) that Police don't want people doing this. Apparently, it has happened that abusive ex partners have set up these "missing person" posts in order to track down exes that have fled from them etc etc

Very easy scam to pull off as well really, one picture and and a sob story and they get inundated with gifts and all sort

Bit rich of the person taking the pic to complain about people not turning up as well when they have opted to sit at a table on the other side of the room rather than join the party :nono:

I hope it is genuine. I've fallen for an Internet sob story once already this year. I'd be super worried publishing their address though, only takes one sociopath with a bucket of anthrax for this to go horribly wrong.

Babayaro. 10-06-2016 10:27 AM

Yup, saw this on Facebook earlier. Feel really sorry for her

Some story about an American gay diagnosed with cancer being kicked out of his house by his parents and needing money for healthcare... only for the sister to intervene and say he was never kicked out. Very messy.

Crimson Dynamo 10-06-2016 10:29 AM

also i call bigtime bs

Crimson Dynamo 10-06-2016 10:45 AM

It sounds tio me like she does not have any friends as such and her cousin sent out a load of invites to randoms hoping people would turn up and naturally they thought, er what? awkward I will just not go and hope other folks do and they did not, I blame the cousin for being a bit naive and not having a party with relatives.

smudgie 10-06-2016 11:20 AM

Screams SCAM to me.
so the picture is meant to depict she has no friends...where are her ruddy family. All a bit too suspect to me.

Shaun 10-06-2016 11:55 AM

To be fair I don't really see how it could be a scam, asking for birthday cards isn't much of an extortion and if people send her gifts/money inside the cards then that's just them doing more than what was asked

no i searched it and it seems legit but I do think that it is highly misleading, mawkish and really not helping anyone

Ninastar 10-06-2016 02:44 PM

I didnt even think about it being a scam because (I think i've posted about it on here before) the thought of someone having a birthday party alone is one of the saddest things I could ever think of. Like it makes me feel sick inside, it upsets me that much. I hate the thought of a kid or a teenager (or anyone really) getting all excited to see their friends and have fun, only to have no one turn up and feel so stupid and unloved. Ugh it literally makes my heart ache,

I'm going to send her a card and one of the giftcards I got for my birthday that I wont use. Its american so I'm glad that i can put it to use!

Ammi 10-06-2016 02:49 PM

...hmmm, I'm not sure what the scam would be if this was a scam but it does make me feel a bit uncomfortable that an 18yr old vulnerable person's surname and address have been 'put out there' on social media and the internet in general, when the content of the post would show how protective her family are/it just doesn't quite sit right really...I wouldn't have thought that was a well thought out thing to do, although her intentions may have been well meaning.../I just don't know...
