Female Debut Singles - The FINAL. *VOTING OPEN*

First of all

Spoiler:

Life has been a bit hectic, and let's admit, big brother is pretty impressive this year.

Now, let's get on with it.

As I stated in the main thread there will be three finalists but there was a three-way tie for third place so now we have five. (oop)

One vote only, use it wisely!

Here are your finalists along with their debut single/video:

Spoiler:

Flying her way to the final it's 90s/00s pop sensation Britney Spears, this was a very popular single which had the whole world singing along. Nobody really knew (not even herself) how immensely famous this song made her.

Year of release: 1998
Billboard chart position: 1
UK chart position: 1

----------------------

Of course queen bey would reach the final! (and no I haven't rigged it). Being the stand out star of Destiny's Child This was her highly anticipated debut single that took the world by storm! The birth of booty shaking and twerking!

Year of release: 2003
Billboard chart position: 1
UK chart position: 1

----------------------

Oh, 2004/5. Two ground-breaking years for music. Gwen Stefani finally stepped into the solo world following her previous success with No Doubt and boy, did she make the right decision! Love. Angel. Music. Baby. gave us so many bops, not the mention her amazing friendship with Eve, "We were waiting for" this solo single since the 90s

Year of release: 2004
Billboard chart position: 47
UK chart position: 4

---------------------

Now, let's be real. EVERYONE knew the words to this song, extremely catchy and very soothing. The music video is very nostalgic and probably reminds a lot of you of your childhood. This song had a lot more success in the UK than the USA (85th biggest selling single of all time in the UK)

Year of release: 1997
Billboard chart position: 42
UK chart position: 2

--------------------

Last, but by no means least it's the UK star of 2006! Another incredibly catchy song, Smile took the UK by storm and Lily gained very fast popularity, it garnered so much interest because her accent is so noticeable and it almost sounds like she's talking rather than singing (no shade) but we can all agree she has tons of talent and this is a great debut single.

Year of release: 2006
Billboard chart position: 49
UK chart position: 1

So, there you have it. Who deserves the title for the best debut single? YOU decide!

Baby One More Time is the epitome of what a perfect debut single is. It became a deserved smash and exceeded all expectations that was had of a relatively unknown Britney. The MV is one of the greatest of all time and remarkably the idea was all thought up by Britney, a teen at the time.

Torn :clap1:

I quite like them all apart from Smile but Torn is just much more my preferred sort of music.

Drew. 19-06-2016 06:02 PM

Torn is one of the greatest ever songs

Jamie89 19-06-2016 06:25 PM

I'm gonna have to think hard about this, baby, gwen and torn are 3 of my all time favourites, I can't decide :worry:

Crazy In Love is the epitome of what a perfect debut single is. It became a deserved smash and exceeded all expectations that was had of a newly-found solo Beyoncé. The MV is one of the greatest of all time and remarkably the idea was all thought up by Beyoncé, a queen at the time.

Gone for Torn because it was so good she couldn't follow it up with another hit, whereas the others could.

(No shade @ Big Mistake, Wishing I Was There or Counting down the Days)

BOMT as it was the start of a pop icon and is forever iconic to this day!

When you think of the 90s you think of Britney/Spice Girls etc.

(Shade @ iconic songs "That Day" & "Beauty on the Fire"?)

Amy Jade 19-06-2016 06:55 PM

I voted for Beyoncé

Black Dagger 19-06-2016 07:15 PM

Gwen bc I like the music video and the song as well lol x

Jamie89 19-06-2016 07:57 PM

Britney Spears - Baby One More Time
What You Waiting For and Torn are just as iconic to me personally but objectively BOMT stands out more. I think it's more of a classic, it had more of an impact career wise, it brought the most media and public attention, it caused the most controversy. It took her instantly from being a 'noone' (idc about the mickey mouse club, noone knew who she was) to being the most emulated and sought after pop star in the world, and she was only 16. It had the biggest impact on pop culture. I think however good the other songs in this list are, BOMT is the only one worthy of the tag 'phenomenon'.

5 days to go (marcus bb voice)

Alf 21-06-2016 11:47 PM

That's quite a tough choice that, I could have gone for any of them besides 'Smile'.

But I took a chance like a 'stupid ho' , and chose Gwen. Tick Tock!

Munchkins 22-06-2016 05:46 PM

Would have voted for Gwen since LAMB is one of my favourite albums of all time (Serious and Bubble Pop Electric ARE LIFE)
But i couldn't deny the iconic hit that was BOMT. Plus i love Britney
