If FA axe Roy Hodgson, what criteria will be used to pick a successor? Does he have to be a star or even a he? Germany coach Joachim Low was never an elite club manager in Germany. He worked his way up from assistant manager as Germany manager.

Looking at the CV of Germany manager JOACHIM LOW, I wonder if FA should take same approach.

Joachim Low is a journeyman player and journeymen manager, his club management career trajectory is hardly impressive and yet since taking over as national manager he's been brilliant, obviously winning World Cup. He barely spent more than at season at a string small clubs, getting sacked from some. The only big-ish club he managed was Turkish side Fenerbahce, of which he was sacked, in fact he was axed from many clubs.


The majority of clubs he has managed are no bigger than Huddersfield, Chelmsford or Bury and yet here he is, highly successful manager of Germany. He never managed a very big club in Germany or Austria; in fact Stuttgart and Austria Vienna are as big as it got. Top managers tend to reject international jobs as the pay is comparatively paltry compared to clubs. Ranieri bagged £5m for winning title, Roy would bag a max of £3m for winning Euros. Wales Chris Coleman is on £250k a year, Bale get more than that weekly at Real Madrid.

Why can't England do the same as Germany? Why do we demand big name managers? Even Sir Alex was poor at Scotland management. Joachim initially was assistant to Klinsmann but it became obvious Low was the tactical brains behind the young GERMAN team in mid 2000s.

England wont sack Roy. Surely.

Low has said he wants to move into club management and has expressed a desire to work in England. There is a certain club in North London that would suit him fine but theres little chance of their current manager stepping down.
