Calais seeks border changes

The mayor of Calais wants changes to a deal which allows Britain to carry out immigration checks on the French side of the English Channel, after a UK vote to leave the EU.
Natacha Bouchart said Paris must act after Wednesday's referendum in which the UK voted to leave the EU.
"The British must take the consequences of their choice," she said on Friday.
Under the 2003 Touquet deal, Britain can carry out check in Calais to stop migrants trying to get to Britain.
Ms Bouchart said: "We are in a strong position to push, to press this request for a review and we are asking the President (Francois Hollande) to bring his weight (to the issue).
"We must put everything on the table and there must be an element of division, of sharing."
Meanwhile, Xavier Bertrand, the president of Hauts-de-France region where Calais is located, said: "The English wanted to take back their freedom: they must take back their border."
The French authorities had warned before the referendum that a vote for leaving the EU could see a camp with thousands of migrants being moved from Calais to British soil.
The British authorities have made no public comments on the issue.

haha thats not going to happen. Irrespective of our EU status, the illegal immigrants are in France and their camp is in france not on the uk side of the border

The camp won't move but border checks?

well the worst case is that the border check moves to Dover, in which case they will be considered illegal and processed accordingly. Sent back on the next train or whatever

at a worst case we can just close the border. that would soon sort the problem out if they want to play silly beggars

The UK border is not in France so they can do one.

Next years Eurovision song contest is in the bag for the UK now. They want us to pay to host the show cos the rest of Europe can't afford too and it's the only chance they have of getting us to pay for something.:joker:

Not Calais throwing a tantrum.

Iirc that is a bilateral agreement between us and France and not an EU agreement. It benefits both countries.I don't think Hollande will start being petty like this silly mare(sorry mayor).Hollande will want to carry on having a good relationship with us as we and France benefit each other greatly with different agreements.
We are going to hear alot of rubbish like this for the next few weeks until all the excitement settles down.
