Petition for second EU referendum investigated for fraud
Nearly eighty thousand signatures added fraudulently
Second EU referendum petition investigated for fraud http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politic...endum-36634407 |
77,000 signatures have already been removed.
The irony of this is really quite fantastic |
As I said in the other thread, a second referendum is pointless. What's done is done, now's the time for the Brexit voters to be faced with the reality of the situation they've created.
|
The petition's website states it was set up by an individual called William Oliver Healey, and says: "We the undersigned call upon HM Government to implement a rule that if the Remain or Leave vote is less than 60%, based [on] a turnout less than 75%, there should be another referendum."
Thursday saw a 72.2% turnout, significantly higher than the 66.1% turnout at last year's general election, but below the 75% mark suggested by Mr Healey as a threshold. In a statement posted on Facebook, a campaigner for the English Democrats party identifying himself as Oliver Healey says he started the petition "when it was looking unlikely that 'leave' were going to win, with the intention of making it harder for 'remain' to further shackle us to the EU". He says the petition has since been "hijacked by the remain campaign". :joker: |

No I don't |
A certain percentage of signatures on any petition will be false or illegitimate. This is a non-story.

I agree this is pointless but there are now over 3,000,000 signatures on it, so even a few hundred thousand not eligible to be on it is a small number.
Which happens I would guess on most petitions anyway as to always some names there that should not be. |
petitions are just the same as inane ramblings on twitter or other yoof social media
they have about as much clout as a wet copy of the radio times |
Still leaving over 2million genuine votes.
|
They wouldn't even consider another referendum. They ****ed the first one up enormously. On both sides.

Could it be all the ex pats denied their vote? |
Wouldn't it be easier to petition for the government to just ignore the first referendum rather than ask for another? If I was a hardcore Remainer that would be my strategy.
