England football Brexit : (post Iceland) inquest

#1 Must all the players come from the EPL? WHY not have players from Championship or League 1. Not every single Polish, Portuguese and Icelandic player is from top flight and guess what, they are all still in. Denmark and Greece won Euros with a raggle taggle of youth, journeymen, bakers, and league 1 chancers. The all time top world cup goal scorer is Germany's Miroslav Klose who started off non league and was a brick layer.

#2 As in the Joachim Low thread, why must our England manager be a premier league or top manager? Low was a journeyman manager who was sacked every other average club he managed. He won a World Cup.

#3 Why was Wilshere in squad, he barely played for Arsenal due to injury. What sort of message does that send out to other players in same position?

#4 Why was there no concern that we only scored 1 goal past Russia, and then act shocked when they have temerity to equalise?

#5 How did Gary Neville land a plum job with little coaching credentials bar playing at a successful club?

The reasons for England consistent failures in Major tournaments? I bet there will be a documentary on this very subject on the BBC probably hosted by Gary Lineker.

Many things are to blame:

The lack of top class coaches in this country. There are good coaches but not enough of them

The over praised players in the Premier league.

Too much emphasis on pampered academy players.

Players playing out of position for England etc.

The FA's curious leadership of the national team.

Sadly I think it may be time for quotas in the Premier league.

All of our players play in the PL & have no clue what football is like on the continent.
Look how Bale has developed while playing in Spain. No coincidence that Wales are really benefiting from this.
We need an England manager with the gut's to tell the players some home truths including leaving England to experience playing in the rest of Europe.
We have men in suits who know NOTHING about football deciding the next manager.
Roy was a Yes-Man with the F.A. We should take players on form not reputation to a tournament.

Yep, and spurs Eric Dier was a youth product at Portuguese Sporting Lisbon de Portugal and boy does it show, he is so easy on the ball, great weight and range of passes and intelligent positioning. I remember he said in an interview, in a Portugal academy, the coaches at sidelines don't help the kids too much, so the kids learn intelligent decision making, positioning, leadership and creativity.

The thing is English players won't play abroad as the can't speak anything other than English (and even that's questionable).Lukaku speaks 5 languages. Plus the EPL is too lucrative, so why would a pampered player move to France (unless it's PSG) .

:clap1:
Our players are in their comfort zone. They are not well rounded individuals.
To experience different playing styles & cultures would be a wonderful thing.
Sterling got upset & a bit of criticism while in other countries criticism is welcomed as it makes you a better/tougher player.
We will never improve as a country unless our players go abroad.

I believe the England squad isn't as great as a lot of people think and they are just expected to reach latter stages every time due to English TV pundits making out they are superior to most teams and talking about England with total arrogance, all it does is pile more expectation and pressure on to the players.

Yesterday was the prime example, they had literally written off Iceland's chances despite them beating Holland (x2), Turkey and Czechs in qualifying for the tournament, and going unbeaten in their group.

We are NOT a great team but at the very least we expect to see some desire, players giving everything & a manager that knows about football.
ANY country should expect that.
I don't know anyone who thinks we a great team but we should have got past Iceland.

Just feel as if English media always get carried away and then get brought back down to earth with a reality check, every single major tournament.

It does feel like the media is making the team better than it really is.

It sells newspapers. If they said "England are sh*t don't bother to watch them" no one would bother & they would be out of job.

England is a squad full of individuals.

Top young foreign players have the following qualities British players often lack:
- intelligence, game management, mental strength, organisation, dedication, will to win - good technique, hard work.

Crimson Dynamo 29-06-2016 10:37 AM

i genuinely think that the team should only be championship players and below

The reasons for our exit go a lot deeper than just "why was Wilshere in the squad" who to be honest performed better than Alli/Rooney anyway.

The mentality in this country is a huge reason, players are mentally weak, we don't work hard enough, too afraid to make mistakes, clueless manager and so on. English players get everything handed to them on a plate, this article Carragher wrote more or less sums up everything

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/art...ng-babies.html

Ignore the music, this is the mentality of an elite footballer/athlete that wants to be the best and wants to win, whilst our lot enjoy a nice holiday off in Kavos having a piss up down the strips during their summers off a lot of South Americans and Foreigners do the opposite.

Agree with everything in the article.

To prove the point here an article on Dominic Solanke demanding 50 k a week from Chelsea when an established payers like Delle Alli is only on 25k. Who does guy think he is and you can bet he will duck when the pressure is on.

We need an overhaul in the FA who tell the Managers which players they can and can't pick.

Hodgson told us that he would pick on form, where was Danny Simpson? Wes Morgan? Marc Albrighton? Mark Noble? Andy Carroll?

The players that keep getting a seat every single time do not care about England as they never have to fight for a place in the team, thus they don't have to perform to the best of their abilities.

No offense to Iceland but if England had've picked the best team that we had on offer we would've won about 4 or 5-0 against them, it just shows you how badly Hodgson picked.

Crimson Dynamo 30-06-2016 12:47 PM

Prem and England flop Sterling:

In his mansion in Stockport he has a barber shop, an indoor swimming pool and even a five-a-side pitch.

The 20-year-old said that because he is asked so often for selfies, having a barber shop in his house was a necessity.

when you have vile little wankers like him playing for England nothing will ever change
