British opposition leader's made comments at presentation of report clearing Labour of anti-Semitism following forced ousters of party figures accused of slurring either Jews or Israel.

British Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn drew an odd parallel on Thursday between Israel and the Islamic State terror group at the launch of a report which cleared his party of accusations of being tainted by anti-Semitism, U.K. reports said.

"Our Jewish friends are no more responsible for the actions of Israel than our Muslim friends are for the self-styled Islamic State," Corbyn told party members.

A Jewish Labour lawmaker, Ruth Smeeth, fled the news conference in tears after he spoke, the Jewish Chronicle said.

Corbyn went on to say: "Nor should Muslims be regarded as sexist, anti-Semitic or otherwise suspect, as has become an ugly Islamophobic norm. We judge people on their individual values and actions, not en masse.

He made a fair point, I'm not going to be surprised if the media twist it though.

Lord Sacks, the former Chief Rabbi has waded into Labour's antisemitism row by releasing a statement on his website in which he accused the Labour leader's of "comparison of the State of Israel to ISIS" at Labour's unveiling of its antisemitism report as a "demonisation of the highest order, an outrage and unacceptable".

The former Chief Rabbi who now sits as a Crossbencher in The House of Lords added: "That this occurred at the launch of the report into the Labour Party’s recent troubles with antisemitism shows how deep the sickness is in parts of left of British politics today.

"Israel is a democratic state with an independent judiciary, a free press and a diverse population of many cultures, religions and creeds.

"ISIS is a terrorist entity whose barbarities have been condemned by all those who value our common humanity. In the current political climate, when hate crimes are rising and political rhetoric is increasingly divisive, this is all the more shocking".

Jewish woman left in tears after being verbally attacked

"But a man handing out leaflets linked to Momentum, an activist group that supports Mr Corbyn, then verbally attacked Ruth Smeeth. Ms Smeeth said she was “verbally attacked” and accused of being part of a media conspiracy.

It is beyond belief that someone could come to the launch of a report on antisemitism in the Labour Party and espouse such vile conspiracy theories about Jewish people, which were ironically highlighted as such in Ms Chakrabarti's report, while the leader of my own party stood by and did absolutely nothing,” she added.

“People like this have no place in our party or our movement and must be opposed.”

The MP called for Mr Corbyn to resign after the incident, saying he failed to intervene."

Shocking abuse

And I was beginning to feel sorry for the anti-semitic, ISIS ass-rimming fecking embarrasment. The sooner he disappears from public life the better. Unelectable? He's fecking Unbearable.

Cherie 30-06-2016 02:34 PM

Seems very timely all this :suspect: let's get back to discussing the imploding Tories

So? Both the leadership of Isreal and Palestine are woeful and have sacrificed the lives of their citizens for a pointless conflict. I don't blame Corbyn for feeling more sympathy for Palestine since it's their citizens that have paid the heaviest price.

It's disgusting to accuse someone of being a terrorist sympathiser just because you don't agree with their opinion, Kirk.

There is always time for the extreme left wing to compare the only democratic country in the middle east to a murdering, gay hating, west hating beheading death squad bunch of loonies that is IS

Livia 30-06-2016 02:47 PM

Corbyn hates Israel but has always been a great supporter of Hamas. I'd think he has enough sh1t to deal with already, maybe he should deal with that rather than stirring up extra sh1t.

the truth 30-06-2016 04:36 PM

hes said nothing wrong there

That's what I read also, and I don't support Labour

bots 30-06-2016 05:13 PM

one has to remember that his speeches are prepared in advance and scrutinised for meaning. He knew what he was suggesting only too well.

Liberty4eva 30-06-2016 05:20 PM

I know where he's coming from when he says this. ISIS kills people. Israel kills people. I suppose you could argue that the other side fired first but Israel doesn't help the situation at all by building settlements. It's like Israel is poking and prodding a snake and then claims being attacked when the snake turns around and gives them a bite. And Muslims are not the only ones who use terrorism. If a soldier does things that terrorize a people, how is this not terrorism? People forget that it was Jewish terrorists (not Muslims) that got Britain to leave the land in the 40s.

I think this labor leader has guts and I hope people listen to him.

what happened was a man of arabian descent then said something like the mp in the crowd was working with the media and she is jewish so she took offence and stormed out. but what corbyn said imo was not remotely racist

I agree with you,I am one who thinks people have to now choose their wording carefully but I cannot see any real or meant offence from him here.
I am of the left and we were branded red Nazis for goodness sake.

I have Jewish friends who admittedly don't care for Corbyn but neither can they see any offence here oddly enough, and they raised another good point,
A view that were the Archbishop of Canterbury to make any political statements he gets told not to meddle in issues, yet this is twice now that the Chief Rabbi has made attacks on Labour and Corbyn publicly

Maybe it would not be too surprising then to wonder just where and from who the real prejudice may be, even if there is any in the first place, which I think and hope there is not.

But didn't you accuse 17 million people who voted to leave the EU to be morons?

MTVN 30-06-2016 08:02 PM

To make a comment like that, on an occasion like that, at a time like this, is at worst inflammatory and at best shows a shocking lack of judgement
