The subject of some very lazy stereotypes

He would be in prison if he wasn't on BB
We will see him ion crime watch soon
Thick, uneducated
Probaby did some shoddy work in the past on someone drive
His Dad's a Mr Big in the travelling world

There are probably loads more but these are off the top of my head, at least try to trot out something factual about him, rather than clinging on to outdated stereotypes :joker:

My work on the drive statement was a joke and not to be taken seriously. He says he is a social worker of some description but nobody seems to know where or who with. Personally I cant see him in that job due to his attitude to all that's wrong in the house and if he carries on like that in the real world, he would be sacked, hence I think he isn't being himself, if indeed he has a job on the outside at all. Most travellers don't have 9 to 5 jobs, so why is he different

To be fair we have opinions on HM's that may differ from yours so we won't always agree. We are not borg ;)

Perhaps we could call him Mr Nose-picker or Mr Chews-Like-Washing Machine :hehe:

Beso 17-07-2016 12:15 PM

nasty.

i'm in agreement here about the stereotyping that has, in some instances, flirted heavily with downright bigotry.

hughie has shown some aspects of his character i liked, but overall far more i didn't. no need for the profiling he's received.

They are not opinions based on Hughie or what he does in the house, they are stereotypes of his community, how can you not see the difference, and what is Borg :conf:

Thank you for seeing what I am trying to say here, sometimes it feels I'm talking double Dutch

again I did not comment on anything of him being a traveller...

so don't try and make out that I did please :)

Borg = 1 mind (collective its a trekkie thing) meaning we do not all think alike by what we see

PS 'Perhaps we could call him Mr Nose-picker or Mr Chews-Like-Washing Machine' he did that in house so I will comment thanks :D

I am Locutus of Borg.

I like Hughie, he and Jason have both been my favourites through most of the show. There is something slightly innocent about him which is endearing and even when he loses his rag it's hard to dislike him. Who will ever forget the words trouble raising bitch! I think his accent is adorable. Where I think he sometimes lets himself down is that he is inclined to get a bee in his bonnet sometimes when it isn't really neccessary or justified, and he won't let things go, like a dog with a bone!

Stereotyping is a form of prejudice and unfortunately there will always be those who do not allow themselves to see beyond bias they have for where someone comes from and what their background is. This is their loss and seriously limits their view of the world.

He is one of the better HM's this year & seems genuinely nice.
I just don't know what he saw in Ryan.........

hot2go 17-07-2016 01:40 PM

His background is irrelevant to me...it was irrelevant when I liked him and it is now I don't so much. I actually think he's more intelligent than Ryan, Lateysha, Sam and Evelyn but he's really immature. But even that isn't the reason I've gone off him, I liked Marco and he was more immature than any of em.
I switched my view of Hughie when he humiliated and persecuted Andy in front of everyone and then isolated him to do it again and again. In his eyes I saw the pleasure he was getting from being so intimidating and mean. He showed a different side that day and now i see it in many situations he has with people.

 And I am Kirk, and one of my friends once told me after a visit to TIBB, that "There's life Jim, but not as we know it"

My other friend, Spock, said he found TIBB "Fascinating".

And so it is, because, we are NOT all Borgs.

Even when Hughie looses his rsg I've never heard him make s physical threat or seen him get up into anyone's face or lunged st someone. Yet for some reason it's been suggested that he's a danger to housemates

That video isn't even the slightest bit threatening. There's so reason at all for people to be holding him back.

Jackson wanted a bit of air time and Jason was pointing him to the DR

If someone was yelling at me this way I would back away... so yes 'threatening' and very uncomfortable... and that is an understatement:shrug:

I never said he was an angel :hee: at any rate this thread is about the presumptions made about Hughie based on his heritage of which there have been many
