The Premiership foreign invasion

this is something that really annoys me
there should be a limit on the amount of foreign playes in the prem
in the sun it same Italy have the least - and they won the world cup
that does kind of tell you something

I both agree and disagree I agree because its starting to look bad on the england team and I remember ages ago in champions league you could only play a certain amount of foreign players they stopped it now though but I disagree because if they do put a rule down teams like arsenal will complain but I more agree than disagree though

It's due to the Bosman ruling. All EU clubs can have as many EU players as they want, but they can only have a maximum of three players from Non-EU countries in the match day squad.

It's all due to John Marc Bosman and his landmark case. So blame him. Actually blame Standard Liege. The club he was playing for.

we need more players to be taken on from the premierships youth teams rather than importing forigners, good example of that is Paul Scholes who started out as apprentice at man united then
worked his way up to playing for his country.
We also need to start facing the racism in the sport head on and give apprenticeships to the Asian youth in this country who spend their waking lives kicking a ball down on "the park".Football should follow Crickets example.

Teams are buying foreign youngsters these day. As I recall, didn't Sir Trevor Brooking threaten to resign from his position as head of Youth development due to the lack of English Youth players that were coming through. He didn't blame the top managers as he understands that it's their job to sign the best players. I think he also claimed that English 15 year old are, in general, inferior players to foreign fifteen year old.

What can the clubs do? I don't believe Italy is bringing in a new system. The Bosman case has changed International EU employment laws, thus anything they bring in Italy would be unlawful.

Yeah i think their should be a limit take a look at Arsenal they had 2 english players playing sunday then they took them off so there was no englishman playing the rest of the match, half of the Man Utd starting 11 is english and there top of the premiership so it shows the english players are good enough to play for the big clubs.

In terms of the clubs success. I think that clubs should play there youth, becuase they understand the culture and the way english football is played. But I think there are gotta be exceptions once in a while for the likes of Henry. Arsenal !!!!!!!!!

SiMoN! 28-02-2007 07:06 PM

i think its wrongs the amount of foreign players Arsenal have on there team

thye only have like 2 english - and they dont play all the time

makes me :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: :mad:

who are the two english players in Arsenal, lol?

Theres another point tho isnt there... ? The best players will play for the best teams, regardless who they are. For example:-

Beckham, Gerrard, Henry, Drogba, Ronaldo ........ Otherwise football will just get shitter...

There needs to be a limit on how many foreign players that each team can have in their team because it's just getting silly with teams even having youth teams full of kids signed from mainly Africa and South America and then you get kids from this country not even getting a chance to play in top youth teams, how can that be right?

Fair enough we get some great players from abroad like Henry, Christiano Ronaldo and Didier Drogba but you also get some terrible players and it just leaves me bemused as you see some really talented lower league players not getting the chance but some fancy named numpty from France who turns out to be rubbish like Bernard Diomede playing instead of these English players. Also these South American kids that are coming in are not doing themselves much good either like Gabriel Paletta of Liverpool, he's come across at about 19 and seemed like a deer caught in the headlights whenever he plays and gave an awful performance against Arsenal in the carling cup and that'll dent his confidence big time and I feel players like him should be fully established in their own countries before they get snapped up by our big clubs, they just rot in the reserves much of the time after being signed on the back of playing well in some youth world cup.

yeah i pretty much agree with that... there is a rotten side of all that ..

but i think theres more to it, that the fans dont normally dont talk about when it comes to these issues. Such as the business side of it.

The more foren players you get the more fans all over the world. I were watching Al Jazeera English the other day, there was a football programme on; and People from all over the world got to phone in and talk about the premiership. Nearer the end of each caller, the presenter would ask the caller "why do you watch the Premiership?". And the caller would say becuase Martins (who is nigerian) from Newcastle plays there. And the caller was all the way from Nigeria.

At the end of the day of your good enough, you'll play no matter who your are, thats what i believe anyway.

Mate, didnt think i should write this post, but i thought i had to.

England have had there most "English" players, English manager, and there shitter than ever before. They have score 1 goal in 5 matches!!!!!!!

They should do what other countries do, and pursade brazilian footballers to apply for a british passport and make them citizens in 2 months, as so they can play for their country. Its the only way England will ever get good.

And come on, lets face it. England was much better with a FOREIGN manager !!!! SVEN!!!

sorry but i had to make this post.

Justin Hoyte and Theo Walcott.

There's nothing that can be done. Blame it all on the Bosman ruling.

Any EU player can play for any EU club. Thats international law. No amount of bitching and moaning can change it.

By the way, England are proper 'shite' under an English manager.

James 27-03-2007 07:15 PM

I think the number of foreign players is good for the Premiership. Makes it more cosmopolitan and multi-cultural, as well as more entertaining.

It's not like British players aren't free to play abroad.

GiRTh 27-03-2007 07:19 PM

I agree with James. Also if the English players were good enough they'd get in the squad.
