I think the problem here (for me) is in the phrase, not the word. "The fat one", it singles him out, and solely because of weight. It's not the biggest crime on the planet but it's thoughtless.

as it is, D probably doesn't care about the label (even if he knew she'd called him that) but it was her attitude that she was better than him and he was bottom of the pile. he's got more personality (like it or loathe it) that than goldfish could ever dream of remembering.

Um no, it seems to depend on the housemate. Also people have no issue ripping into other housemates looks for example renee (and I am not excusing any of it, but it does get irritating when this argument comes up time and time again)
