Why do people worry about the boring 20-something guys winning?

I started watching BB on C5 in 2014, and I remember each year people were like "ohh he's boring, he's coasting on his looks, he doesn't deserve to win"
BB15 - Winston and Ash
BB16 - Danny and Cristian
BB17 - Alex

(I really had to strain to remember Alex's name)

None of them won, and even in the recent years none of the winners were boring 20-something males
BB13 - Luke A, not 20-something
BB14 - Sam ... yeah, okay (but he was fit)
BB15 - Helen, not male or boring
BB16 - Chloe, not male or very boring
BB17 - not boring or 20-something

They get a free pass to the final based on looks which is trash.

Yeah this. And it's that even though they don't usually win, the thought that they could, or that they stand a better chance than most of the entertaining/interesting housemates purely because of their looks/age, it's not what BB should be about imo.
And if we're including CBB I think Scotty T and James fit as two very recent examples.

Winston would have won if that eviction wasn't a double imo

Withano 08-08-2016 05:51 PM

They get to do less to gain support. They can be vile and be supported, they can be dull and be supported, doesn't make a difference, if you have a six pack and a pretty face you have 10% of the vote.

scotty t winning was a travesty.

This.
It's more likely to happen in CBB, with the flood of the TOWIE disease.

James was a worthy winner, even though I rooted for Austin. He was really likeable and a centerpart of his series, so him winning was deserved. Scotty winning though. :fist:

I agree, people always think it's them who do the best, they don't.

When was the last time a "good looking guy" won civilian BB? I think you could say Aaron was deemed fairly good looking, but who else? The closest you come to is Anthony and he wasn't very good looking. Sam certainly wasn't. With CBB... only James.

There's been more fitter girls who have won... Kate, Rachel, Sophie, Helen wasn't too horrific to look at and neither was Chloe.

^ Jason got a lot of support for appealing to the housewives

I don't think Anthony was good looking either, but he undoubtedly received a lot of votes because many people did. He was 'the fit one' of the series. And I think the difference with attractive females is that generally when they do well, I think it's despite being attractive rather than because of it. (Whereas with the men in question it's more a case of them doing well because of their appearance and despite their personalities.) Obviously that's all generalisations and I'm talking more of the boring men that make the final rather than winners specifically, and there are exceptions of course, but still I think there's a definite trend.

BB-
Craig - BB1 - (I know he was liked for being nice/confronting Nick but I reckon some of his votes were due to him being attracted)
Anthony - BB6
Aaron - BB12 (I don't know him as a housemate but I reckon his looks came into it?)
Sam - BB14

Not to mention JJ BB11, Luke S BB13, Ash BB15, Winston BB15, Cristan BB16, Danny BB16, Alex BB17 and Jackson BB17 only got as far as they did mainly on the basis that they were 'fit'.

CBB-
CBB7 - Alex Reid
CBB16 - James Hill
CBB17 - Scotty T

Not to mention Jeremy Edwards CBB3, Preston CBB4, Jack Tweed CBB5, Frankie CBB9, Harvey, Ashley and Prince Lorenzo CBB10, Ricci CBB14, Lewis CBB18 and Bear CBB18 all managed to make it far (despite most of them being pretty awful people) on the basis of being seen as 'fit' by voters.

So yes people should worry!

None of those won because they were 'fit' though. The majority of the voters wouldn't have picked up the phone because they were 'fit' (even though in recent years as soon as a hot girl is up for eviction everyone in the house tells her that she'll be safe because the lads will vote to save her/vote to evict her opponent although I have no idea where they get their evidence from)

Most of them won by being the last decent human being/decent housemate that wasn't evicted (Rachel, Sophie, Josie, Chloe) or by actually being a good housemate (Kate, Nadia and Helen) or both.

Jason. 10-08-2016 10:03 PM

Tbf to James Hill, I don't think he won just cause he was a good-looking guy and I don't think he should be up there with the rest of the other dullards who only relied on their looks. He was actually one of the top 5 contributors to his series and I think what also helped him was the fact that he came across better on CBB given his TA stint where he came across as a villain. Idr him being popular at first but people grew to like him in the end and also the fact he was British (in a series like UK vs. USA a Brit was always going to win lbr and he was probably the Brit that contributed the most) combined with Austin being a dick in the last few days (and American) and well Janice, Jenna and Farrah (the other main contributors - also American) were never going to win anyway, there was only James left really.

Scotty T I agree with, like wtf did he actually do?

Jack Tweed got far as a result of not being up for eviction during the series (or more importantly after the whole racism thing). When it came to the final he finished sixth place (he was even beaten by Danielle Lloyd ffs) with like 2% of the vote to win. And no doubt he was 2nd to last in that first eviction. Plus I don't think anyone found Jack good looking anyway, his hairline offended me more than some of the things that came out of his mouth.

And why has nobody mentioned Conor yet? He's one of the major HM's that fit this theory. Like even before he was horrible, he managed to poll almost 70% in a 3-way VTS against Lydia and Victoria on Day 4 (the two biggest contributors at that point). As well has having enough of fanbase to survive 3 more evictions despite being a ****ing ****.

Oaker 10-08-2016 10:11 PM

What confuses me most about Conor is he wasn't even good looking :umm2:

Vicky. 10-08-2016 10:14 PM

People **** themselves about the 'teengirl' vote every year, and it never materializes tbh. yeah the odd pretty boy might make the final but thats mainly as they tend to be inoffensive, and inoffensive people dont usually go in vote to evict, even if they aren't goodlooking guys...

No guys have won for being fit either though? Or none that I can think of.

Scotty T aside as I think he won on the geordie shore vote more than him, being 'fit' (which I did NOT get, at all. looked like a potato :umm2: )

Vicky. 10-08-2016 10:16 PM

Aaron was very goodlooking, but his looks were not relevant to his win. He is actually the ONLY civilian winner I personally thought was goodlooking (male)

This is also true. But people did find him for some odd reason.

Arron and Luke S were both better looking than him and he beat them both in evictions so idk what to think.

Conor did well mainly because of his fanbase consisting of teenage girls who believed he could do no wrong and the Northern Irish vote. He also probably got the anti-Deana votes (god knows why that's a thing)

Oliver_W 11-08-2016 10:22 AM

I wonder if it would be different if only one 20-something guy got their respective final, like I bet Danny and Cristian shared some votes, so if one wasn't there they'd probably get the other's votes. Danny and Cristian are more similar than Hughie and Jackson, so I don't know if they'd share votes?
