Were you insulted by Renees use of the word 'cancer'

The word alone cuts through me like a knife to the throat.. But her context was justified

She wasnt saying "hahaha cancer is funny" like some users misheard... She compared cancer to the worst person she has ever met.

There isnt disrespect here imo, she said at the beginning of the show that she despises bear, it is probable she feels the same way about cancer.

Vicky. 25-08-2016 10:03 PM

Not at all. I did find it a little two faced though how she was repeating to Aubrey that she did infact mean it how he took it, and then said a few worse cancer related things...however when making up she was all like..'you said I said you were cancer, I never said that'

Thats not the same as being offended though

Vanessa 25-08-2016 10:03 PM

I wasn't offended, but it was a horrible thing to say. Then she tried to justify it to Bear. He could have kicked up a fuss over it, but he let it go.

Daffodil 25-08-2016 10:04 PM

It is utterly ridiculous to be offended by the use of cancer as a metaphor. And in Bear's case it was utterly justified.

Amy Jade 25-08-2016 10:05 PM

Not at all, it is a well known saying.

Cherie 25-08-2016 10:06 PM

It didn't particularly offend me, but then everyone's different and if you had experience of cancer you might feel differently

Firewire 25-08-2016 10:07 PM

Imagine being offended by something so trivial

I think most people have had an experience with cancer though. 1 in 3 will eventually get it? Isnt that the stat?

smudgie 25-08-2016 10:11 PM

No.
It is a well known metaphor.
This coming from someone with one sister that has had cancer twice, another sister with terminal cancer, a sister-in-law with terminal cancer and numerous family members died from it.

Eventually being the operative word there I personally haven't had it or anyone close to me so as I said I'm not offended, but I'm not going to tell other people they shouldn't be like you seem to be doing

The irony is that she is far more like cancer than bear is. Cancer kills and her mobster family kill people and she apparently approves of it.

Jay28jay2 25-08-2016 10:26 PM

Mitch in BBCAN referenced Jared, Rail and Kelsey to be cancerous, that wasnt offensive?

Right.. But in the poll you said that the misuse of the word offends you a lot? So its hard to take your point seriously.. What is your point? Its offensive when others use it but not me? Thats a terrible point, that cant be it? Help me out.

Clootie Dumpling 26-08-2016 04:10 AM

I think it was clear that she chose her words carefully and it was heartfelt, so completely justifiable.

This is true of most of the UK today.

No people need to get over themselves

Ammi 26-08-2016 05:00 AM

..not personally offended, no...like many, many people, I've lost people I loved to cancer and also have people in my life who have survived cancer...it's one of those things though/in the way the word was used that would easily cause offence because of the associations and personal pain...

..it really does show the level of 'hate' in the house..(also in Renee saying that she actually wished physical harm on Bear..)..I mean wow...but it's all though been provoked/instigated/stirred up, mixed around and evoked by Bear..this is the house he wanted, this is the house that he's striven for, this is the house that he's given us...he's been relentless in that and now it's all like a monster to his Frankenstein...it was really never going to end any other way ..he's pushed/prodded and poked for the worst in people and that's exactly what he's got..and this is entertainment..?...this is to further his career or whatever..?..no, this is hate, for which he's greatly responsible and it really isn't pleasant at all...grim Bear/grim Renee...just grim, grim, grim ...

Ammi 26-08-2016 05:07 AM

..I mean, you just can't purposefully (whether it be part of a personal game-plan or not..)..bring out the very worst in people and then stand back with a lack of responsibility and ownership in what you've created or any surprise/shock at the level of that 'worst'...

Beautifully put

joeysteele 26-08-2016 07:57 AM

I thought it warranted a talking to at least, more as to what she said to Aubrey as to it.

Not offended myself, more disappointed by her and that she lowered how I see her now.

Cherie 26-08-2016 08:39 AM

Different people are offended by different things depending on their life experiences I don't know what the purpose of this thread is in all honesty, we are not all the same I think most people know that
