TiBB's 11th Pub Quiz [Form your teams, it's starting late October]
Since Alf asked so nicely :hee:
It's been almost a year :o since the last one, hosted by Benjamin - if you're curious btw, the first one was hosted by GypsyGoth, and Z (6th), NovoBaratheon (4th) and Benjamin (9th and 10th) have all hosted at least one series each. The other five quizzes? Set by yours truly :pipe:
I'm getting this thread up super early because I'm not looking to start it until late October in lieu of me not bothering with In Cold Blood for a while again (I've not put it to bed, so don't even think of asking me to take the reigns :nono:) - but I'm just giving a 2 month warning now to form some quiz teams and for me to get to work on the questions.
For any new members - and there'll be a handful since the last one was December 2014 - the rules of the quiz are as follows:

- I compile seven rounds of fifty 'questions' that each last two days.
- Each round is a specific category. The seven categories this year will contain: film, TV, music videos, sport and reality TV.
- The first round will be the token "music clips" round, where I tinker around with some song clips in a YouTube video so that they're unrecognisable by Shazam/other song identifying apps (although, really, it'd just be a hell of a lot nicer to me if you didn't try to use them. I mean what's the point in winning a quiz if it's Shazam that's won it for you?)
- The five standard rounds will consist of screenshotted images from YouTube/other video footage of certain sportspeople, music videos, TV shows or films. Your task here will be to name each of those.
- There will also be a (I think) new round based loosely on the TV show Catchphrase, where the fifty answers will all be idioms and catchphrases that I have started to BREATHTAKINGLY reimagine in the form of a Microsoft Paint drawing. I apologise in advance for my art.
- Quiz teams may have up to five members. Traditionally, James and Josy set up team rooms for you that only your team, admin/mods, and I (the host) can read, so you can discuss your answers more freely without giving other teams help :p but I should probably ask Josy and James if this is OK first... (consider this me asking, btw, I already post on your wall way too often Josy)
- At the end of the seven rounds, the quiz team with the most points overall will be crowned the winners, and receive a forum award that I am yet to design.

I do ask that everyone refrains from cheating. Google has come a hell of a long way since the very first Pub Quiz on here back in 2011. For example, Image Search wasn't a thing. But Greg and Ben can attest (or at least they could if they were still with us) that running this thing is a total nightmare. Finding images in videos that have never been screenshot before, and are therefore un-google-able, is near impossible, and a long process. In a way, this is my least favourite game to run as a result. I don't do begging but I will go as close to it as I can in asking you all not to use things like Google Image Search, Shazam, posting my questions on other forums for help... because:
1) It is a waste of my time
2) It is a hollow victory
3) If I catch you doing it I'll out you and make your future time on this forum a living hell
and 4) I'll hate you and probably campaign for you to be banned. I am a really ****ing nasty person if you cross me and I cannot stress how angry this game makes me when it's being sabotaged.
It takes probably a solid fortnight of preparation for this and I ask that you respect that and just play the game with fairness. I'm not saying "DO NOT USE GOOGLE" because of course you're going to see some pictures and think, "hmm, that actress looks familiar, is it [Sarah Michelle Gellar]?" and then have a look at Wikipedia for a list of films/TV shows she's been in to see if they look like my screenshots. And that is perfectly fine, it's what the quiz is all about: educated research (or indeed guesses :laugh:).
For now - just form teams of five (or fewer)! And come up with a name. Once you've gathered your team and come up with a (clean, and not too long) name, PM me to confirm.
