Alexis Arquette dies aged 47

The transgender actress died in the early hours of Sunday morning surrounded by her siblings, a niece and other loved ones, her brother Richmond wrote on Facebook.

The actor wrote that she passed away at 12.32am while listening to David Bowie's Starman.

Paying tribute to Arquette, he said: 'I am feeling immense gratitude to have been afforded the luxury of sharing life with him/her, for learning from Alexis, for being given the gift of being able to love him/her.'

He added: 'Thank you, Alexis, I love you and will love you always.'
But he didn't reveal the cause of death, but said that he is 'immensely grateful that it was fast and painless.'

Arquette, who was born Robert, but transitioned to a woman in 2006, had been battling an undisclosed illness, TMZ reports.

The actress, best known for the roles in Pulp Fiction and The Wedding Singer, was also a prominent transgender activist.

'She was in a coma for four days at Cedars and no one was allowed to see her except for family,' a source close to the Arquettes told Radar Online.

Arquette's other famous siblings - actors David, Patricia and Rosanna - have yet to comment.

Multiple sources, including Richmond’s agent, also confirmed the news to Variety. A cause of death has not been yet released. Alexis Arquette’s sister, Oscar-winning actress Patricia Arquette, also appeared to pay tribute to Alexis by tweeting David Bowie’s “Starman” and T. Rex’s “Cosmic Dancer.”

“Breaking through the veil singing Starman,” Patricia captioned one tweet. “To My first best friend – Cosmic Dancer,” she wrote with the other.

“I am feeling immense gratitude to have been afforded the luxury of sharing life with him/her, for learning from Alexis, for being given the gift of being able to love him/her and to be loved by him/her. He was a force,” Richmond added in the Facebook post. “He died as he lived, on his own terms. I am immensely grateful that it was fast and painless. It was an incredibly moving experience and I am humbled and grateful to have been able to have been with him as he began his journey onward. Thank you, Alexis, I love you and will love you always.”

Born Robert Arquette, Alexis started acting at a young age and nabbed a variety of roles over her career. She is maybe best known for playing a Boy George impersonator in “The Wedding Singer,” and also appeared in “Of Men and Mice,” “Bride of Chucky” and most recently in 2014’s “Blended” alongside Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.

Along with Patricia, Alexis’ famous family also includes David and Rosanna Arquette. Alexis’ transition into a woman was documented in 2007’s “Alexis Arquette: She’s My Brother.”

Oh no. First I was thinking of Patricia Arquette then I googled her and remembered her from The wedding singer.

This is such a shock. I was thinking of her role in Pulp Fiction today, as I was unaware her sister was the woman who played Jody. I was looking through their filmography this morning.

RIP. I'm not fully aware if she had a good life but she was a very brave woman.

Oh no that's so sad, I feel so sad for the family :(

I loved her in Bride of Chucky, a small role made into something very memorable.
