Comic Relief or Fair Trade
 

It is know I have issues with Comic relief, but another thought occurred to me.

An alternative to Comic Relief is Fair Trade, and we are in the middle of Fair Trade Fortnight

With Comic relief the recipients know they are receiving charity, with Fare Trade they are helping themselves with dignity.

What do others think?

I do already buy some items of fair trade (coffee etc..) however today I was annoyed when I went for roses for myself and found the fair trade ones were £2.50 more than the others, now how is that fair to me?

I know that Sticks but as a consumer there has to be SOME benefit for me. They were no better quality, there was actually less of them. The coffee I buy is only a little more expensive so I dont feel exploited as a consumer.

I still have to consider my own budget and value for money when shopping.

We had a Fairtrade presentation at our school a couple months back and there were workshops etc... although it does help the poorer workers in LEDCs, it's still very corrupt.

I'd prefer Fair Trade as it's less corrupt, but there is still some element of a corrupt nature within fair trade products.

Also, as Sunny has pointed out - often the costs outweigh the benefits to the consumer.
