Alan Carr's Chatty Man axed after 16 series

Alan Carr has revealed his Chatty Man talk show has been AXED by Channel 4.

The telly favourite admits he struggled to pull in the viewers as he went up against rivals Graham Norton and Jonathan Ross, and he's now "moving on" after bosses pulled the plug.

According to The Sun newspaper , Chatty Man regularly picked up two million viewers - but it wasn't enough to beat Graham's popular BBC talk show, which reached 3.9 million.

"I just think that the art of the chat show has evolved unless you can get the amazing guests all the time that Norton gets," he told the publication.

"Three guests a week and Channel 4, God love 'em, extended it to 30 episodes — that's 90 guests who are relevant and people are interested in, up against the amazing Norton and Jonathan Ross."

He also admitted moving the show to a Thursday was not "not the best move" because it's a party show and should be aired on a Friday.

But he isn't bitter about the decision, adding: "I've gone as far as I can with Chatty Man. Won a BAFTA, won two NTAs."

I do enjoy Norton's show more than Chatty Man nowadays but I much prefer Alan to Graham (both as a host and likeability wise) so it's a shame

Yeah I agree

If Alan has the calibre of guests that Graham had then it would be a no-brainer as to what show I would want to watch

I love Graham

I actually expected Jonathan Ross to get axed first since it's always shoved in a grave-yard slot

I also prefer having all the guests on at once (Chatty Man did a variation of that in more recent runs with bringing them all back at the end but it wasn't the same).

I do think Graham is "better" interview wise for sure, I just find it hard to really like him. I think he can be funny and is undoubtedly good at his job but I've never warmed to him as a person, it's his show's format and guests that have me watching rather than him.

I'd love a Friday Night Project return though :flutter:

Braden 09-10-2016 10:37 AM

Alan is denying this on twitter saying it has not been 'axed'?

Babayaro. 09-10-2016 12:13 PM

Poor it.
