Notifications/new message feature for the Social Groups?
I don't know if it's an important feature for anyone else but basically I use a private social group on here for the judges of In Cold Blood and I noticed recently it was impossible to tell when there were new messages or topics in the groups unless you checked them manually at the bottom of the page.
I was wondering if it were at all possible to add them to the "New Posts" tab, or something similar? Maybe not a notification like "new PM/new wall post" because that might get annoying if there's like 40 new posts in there  but something like that? |
I think that's a good idea, I hardly ever look in social groups and I think theyd be busier if there was some kind of notification when people post in them.

Here for adding them to New posts

This would be great indeed. Please apply this.

I feel this would add more of a clique atmosphere to the forum.

Yes it's annoying when it takes me months to realise Scott has posted porn in 18+

Well just make it for my game then, I only need it for the judges :idc:

I'm guessing since this is a second thread about social groups that's going ignored they're basically a forgotten/dead feature? :ninja2:

I say take the pressure off the database, strip the silly social groups feature since it's underused plugin and instead install a plugin the write to DB alerts alerts for when people are quoted in threads on the forum... oh and update vBulletin. Not sure if the latest vB has PHP7 support or not, but updating it to support that alone could potentially increase performance and maybe help out with reducing server costs so may be worth it in the longrun to update. (plus more secure)

I'm not sure if it could be added into the tab Shaun but I'll check it out and check with James.
You can subscribe to a social group by using the group tools and then it appears in your cpanel, I guess that could be easier for checking for new posts in the meantime rather than having to scroll down and check at the bottom of the forum? |
