X Factor 2016 viewing figures drop to shocking low

The second live show of the series was watched by an average of 5.8 million viewers.

That's down 400,000 viewers on last weekend's previous series low for the first live show, despite last night clashing with Strictly Come Dancing for 25 minutes less.

Worse still, it's down 500,000 on last year's second live show and down almost 2 million on 2014's equivalent episode.

As for Strictly, it's more good news as the BBC series comes close to getting double X Factor's figures.

The average audience of 9.8 million for last night's episode was up 200,000 week on week and year on year and a marked 600,000 increase on 2014.

This is really disappointing given how well the show was doing around the auditions, and the timeshifts have been pretty respectable too.

I don't actually think this bunch of finalists is all that bad after two weeks of lives but they made some catastrophic mistakes at judges houses and I think it's cost them. My only fear is Simon and co will make yet more unnecessary changes next year when this is without a doubt the best panel in years and the best produced the show has been for a while too. They need to stick with it and see if it can improve, consistency is key.

It's a crap year for acts tbh (maybe the worst since 2012). I only care about the three in my sig, I had about six or seven I liked last year. I'm surprised it's lower than last year though, much more people seem to be talking about it than they were last series.

Yeah loads of people seem to be talking about it this year.

I agree about the acts, it kind of feels like Matt's going to win and it seems all about him just because he looks like Louis Tomlinson.

I like it.

This year has been an improvement on the recent lives imo

I'm not surprised, it's still lacking something to make this good. Last years would have been amazing if it was 10 weeks because the talent was amazing.

There's 2 live show acts I'm particularly bothered about, I'll still watch but my interest level is lower than ever tbh.

Barely anyone I know is watching it this year. I'm not watching it either and the only act I've heard about outside of TIBB is Honey G

I've liked it a lot more than last year but the whole show just feels a bit stale now

Terrible this year.

So annoying because last year's finalists were stellar but the lives were awful.

Serves them right for not putting Christian through. :idc:

The judges are just to embarrassing for words, as for Honey G .

Pretty much this, especially the latter part. A big part of why BGT is doing so well at the moment is that it's had the same well-received panel since 2012 - any more changes at this point will push X Factor's ratings much lower. Plus, Simon made a point before the series that it was viewers online that helped him put the panel together, so I hope that he keeps this in mind before considering another revamp.
