I thought I would open a generic thread to talk about the election as its less than a week away and discuss the result.

So latest news, polls, tweets etc

US election day and night: timeline
00:01 ET (05:01 GMT)

The first results are announced - possibly in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire
06:00 ET (11:00 GMT)

Polling stations open in east coast states and election day proper underway
TBC:

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton cast their votes, most likely in New York
19:00 ET (00:00 GMT)

Polling stations start to close and first state projections made based on exit polls
23:00 ET (04:00 GMT)

Earliest possible time the election will be "called" for either candidate by US TV networks
TBC:

Victory or concession speeches from both Mrs Clinton and Mr Trump

------------------------------------

The magic number is 270 electoral college votes - each state, plus Washington DC, is awarded a certain number of electoral votes based roughly on size.

When the winner is beyond doubt, the losing candidate calls the winner to concede. Both Mrs Clinton and Mr Trump will give a speech: one to claim victory and the other admit defeat. But there is always the possibility - as happened in 2000 - that at the end of Election Day we may still not know who has won.

Clinton will win and Trump will cry it is rigged like the pathetic baby he is and life will go on. The end

I traded with a Georgian guy at my work... my homemade, chickpea masala (now and forever more referred to as the love curry) for his vote in the American Election

I told him to vote for this guy

Thought it would go either way, but remain would win by about 1 or 2 %.

However Clinton will win this

But if Trump wins he wont last the whole term, so I am not too worried. :)

Yet Trump is the only one with a Trial Date for Child Rape coming up.

Northern Monkey 04-11-2016 04:10 PM

Maybe they should both go to prison they can start over with some sensible candidates?

Ooops!!

Judge issues restraining order against Trump campaign over voter-harassment fears

An Ohio judge has issued a temporary restraining order against members of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign to prevent them from intimidating voters in the Buckeye State after the filing of a lawsuit that alleged Trump’s campaign, in cahoots with a GOP operative and his political action committee, were conspiring to suppress minority votes in the state.

US District Judge James Gwin ruled in a lawsuit filed by the Ohio Democratic Party that any members of Trump’s campaign or affiliated with Roger Stone’s Pac would face contempt-of-court charges, according to Cleveland.com.

The order will be written in a party-neutral manner, Gwin said in his ruling.

“It wouldn’t be any attempt to particularly identify as somebody being a Trump supporter or not,” Gwin said.

The lawsuit, filed on Sunday, claimed that Trump’s comments in Akron on August 22 - “You’ve got to get everybody to go out and watch, and go out and vote. And when I say ‘watch,’ you know what I’m talking about, right?” - were a tacit bid to convince his supporters to suppress minority turnout.

It's got a court date which means it's a case with merit.

If you're going to act like Hillary is guilty until proven innocent then have the decency to not be hypocritical and give Trump the alledged child rapist the same treatment.

The polls tighten. The fear rises. And there could hardly be a more urgent or relevant film than this.

You’ve Been Trumped Too: it’s the film Donald Trump doesn’t want you to see
Anthony Baxter
Read more
Five years ago, British director Anthony Baxter made a Michael Moore-esque documentary about the obnoxious arrogance of Donald J Trump, who was vandalising a coastline of natural beauty near Aberdeen to build a golf course, in so doing making promises on job creation and finding a useful idiot in Alex Salmond, who had rolled over with the necessary political permissions. In the course of all this, Trump’s building workers had cut off the water supply to an elderly, courageous widow, Mrs Molly Forbes, and her son Michael. The Forbes family had refused to sell up. Now, five years later, Baxter has returned to find this water supply has still not been restored.

The point about Trump’s grisly Scottish adventure is that it’s a very real dummy run for what he would be like as an international statesman in the arena of politics and diplomacy. Of course he is a mendacious sociopath, and he has far too easily coerced forelock-tugging UK officials into doing his bidding. When Trump talks about bringing the private business style into politics, this is what he means: corporate lawyers attacking local communities; and breaking promises on jobs, supposedly the cornerstone of what passes for Trump’s political vision. What on earth is Nicola Sturgeon doing about this? Or Scottish Secretary David Mundell? Whatever happens in the US presidential election, it is time for them to stand up for Mrs Molly Forbes.

People are definitely lashing out at the media. A man repeatedly asks this Sky News Reporter why they are asking Trump supporters "loaded questions".

Nevada pretty much dead for Trump already. Big blow for him.

LeatherTrumpet 05-11-2016 04:53 PM

Donald Trump on Saturday began his final weekend of the 2016 White House race headlining his essentially one-man show, while slamming the campaign of Democratic rival Hillary Clinton for letting hip-hop star Jay Z rap a profanity-laced song at a rally Friday night in battleground Ohio.

“He used every word in the book. Can you imagine if I said that?” Trump, whom the Clinton campaign and others have criticized for using racially and otherwise insensitive language, said at a rally in Tampa, Florida.

“That shows you the phoniness of politicians, the whole system. … In three days, we are going to win Florida. We are going to win the White House.”
