Celebrity Big Brother to go 'back to basics' and ban reality stars?

Celebrity Big Brother 2017 will go 'back to basics', it's been claimed.

And that means a line up with actual celebrities.

The show is said to follow in the footsteps of I'm A Celebrity which this year BANNED reality TV stars, including former CBB winner Charlotte Crosby.

In recent series the show - including its non-celeb version - has become filled with cast members of other reality programmes including TOWIE, Made In Chelsea, Geordie Shore, Ex On The Beach and The Valleys.

And it's often caused fix accusations with Channel 5 and MTV - who air both Geordie Shore and Ex On The Beach - sharing an owner.

According to the Daily Star newspaper, show bosses are keen to 'start again' with their casting for January's show.

"There is a definite feeling about ripping up the casting book and starting again," a source said.

However where this would leave next year's supposed all stars Celebrity Big Brother remains to be seen.

It was claimed earlier this year that producers were planning on bringing back some familiar faces, such as most recent CBB winner Stephen Bear, to celebrate what will be the 20th series of the show.

As yet nothing has been confirmed for Celebrity Big Brother next year but Channel 5 boss Ben Frow has announced plans to shake the show up.

Speaking at the Edinburgh International Television Festival back in the summer, he said: "Big Brother is 17 years old, it'll be 18 years old next year, it's still going. I don't want to be the person who kills Big Brother...

"It's all good so far but we owe it to the viewers to ask 'How can we reposition this for the future? How can we keep surprising the viewer? How can we take something that is a great premise, filming people 24 hours a day, what can we do with it going forward?'

"I'd like to have that brave, big, bold, blue sky discussion with the makers of Big Brother.

"After this series is finished, we'll go 'In January it starts again, what could we do that'll make us leaders?'"

He declared: "Big Brother has been the number 1 reality show for 17 years, I do not want to be second, I want to keep being a leader in terms of reality."

Celebrity Big Brother and Big Brother will air next year on Channel 5.

(It's not gonna happen, but it desperately needs this.)

I bet it'll serve CBB15 when they said they wouldn't have anyone from GS/TOWIE/MIC and just got Chloe from EOTB instead.

It'll be interesting, but it won't happen.

Viacom is involved, hence there will be reality people in it.

As if Channel 5 wouldn't take the opportunity to cast more z-listers

ban the british reality stars but keep the americans

They will cast someone from Teen Moms UK

Not going to happen, we'll continue to get MTV reality stars because C5 and MTV are sister channels and throwing in pond life from EOTB and Geordie Shore is a good bit of cross promotion.

Could they just do this with regular BB??

hijaxers 08-11-2016 02:12 PM

Sorry but i don't believe a word of it !

I wish they would, but theyre so cheap that they probably wont. Gotta fill the house up and theyre more appealing to viewers than models or pop icons from past decades

Of course...

reality stars bring in a viewer ship of there own, there is no way that channel 5 will be willing to lose out on a demographic which would be teens to twenty's who watch the reality shows and only tune in because of the reality star.

Most of those shows get half as many viewers as CBB does though and its not like casting a lot more reality stars has increased CBB's ratings.

I think this would be a good idea, my only concern would be that they would find it too hard to find more 'genuine' celebs nowadays
